Richard Burgi – The Sentinel

Q.  “The Sentinel” is a cult favorite show.  Why do you think that it has taken so long to release this DVD set?

A.  Probably because they had wanted to release all of the also ran shows that obviously aren’t as popular or as powerful as The Sentinel.  It’s kind of like having an opening act at a concert and then you have the main event, I think it’s something like that.

Q.  A lot of people have described the show as having  the feel of a comic book come to life.  What is it about the show that you would say gives it this description?

A.  I think everybody can relate to heightened senses at some times.  I think there is a deep yearning in most people to have a better relationship with nature and life.

Q.  What originally made you want to be a part of the show?

A.  A steady paycheck!  I had worked with Danny and Paul and I really liked their humor and approach to entertainment.

Q.  The character of Jim had heightened senses.  How were you able to transform yourself for the role?

A.  I have always gravitated towards solitude in nature.  When I was younger I played sports, I would climb trees to try and get power and energy.  So, I have always had a kind of wacky way of approaching things like that.  I always wanted to go in the ocean before an audition.  I think I had the preparation for it for years.

Q.  Do you have a favorite episode from the DVD set?

A.  I am kind of partial to the pilot and I had so much fun on each episode that it’s hard to really pick out one.  Yeah, I don’t have a favorite one.   The pilot though probably because it was so new and we had so much time to work on it, it was the most fun.

Q.  Why should viewers not familiar with the show take the time to check out the DVD?

A.  It’s a great ride, it’s really entertaining and I think there is a lot in there, there is something that appeals to a cross section of society.

Q.  What would you like to say to fans and supporters of the show?

A.  I would like to thank their endeavors for keeping the show alive and supporting the drive for the entertainment.  I want to applaud their taste and appreciation for good talent.  I just want to say thank you, I have a lot of gratitude for people who have supported the show and are still supportive of keeping the show going.  It’s because it’s a good show and it’s because the content is something that I think stirred a lot of possibilities in people.  I want to say bravo to all of those who kept the show going, it’s because of them.
