Season Six ended with a wedding and a shootout that left the fans wondering if someone was shot. With this being the final season for “Rizzoli and Isles,” could we lose one of our favorite characters?

Gunfire and I do’s

Shots rang out at Korsak and Kiki’s wedding and we find out the shooter hit Nina (Idara Victor) in the arm with a superficial gunshot wound that required surgery. The rest of the guests had minor injuries from taking cover. Maura, (Sasha Alexander) Boston’s favorite Brainiac and medical examiner, took a hard fall resulting in a gash to her head and lasting repercussions. Jane assumed the assailant was Alice Sands, (played by Annabeth Gish) an ex police academy classmate of Jane’s. Jane (Angie Harmon) and the Boston Police Department have been trying to catch Alice since her jealousy of Jane drove her to burn down the detective’s apartment and kidnap Maura. Alice came from a long line of heavily decorated cops and was expected to graduate at the top of her class at the Police academy, which she might have if it wasn’t for Jane. Jane Rizzoli was top of her class and Alice dropped out in shame, to wind up leading a life of crime. Now, she’s using all of her police skills to come at every person in Rizzoli’s life while evading the police. Jane takes off, shoeless, in her tight dress to try and catch Alice, but she comes up empty handed. Alice is too smart to be caught so easily. Jane is determined to stop her though as she may be headed to Canada after the press broke the news about her being B.P.D.’s most wanted. Alice knows everyone assumes she’s Canada bound so she sneaks back into Boston, ready to wreak more havoc. Jane decides to use Alice’s grudge in her favor and throws a press conference telling the world Alice is a psychopath and that’s why she was a police academy drop out. Jane knows that Alice will be watching the news and if she can draw her out by making her angry, she might make a mistake.

Concussions and Confrontations

Jane is beyond stressed with this case. She’s trying to protect her loved ones from a skilled and angry sociopath and her best friend just fainted on the job from her head injury. Maura goes to the hospital to get checked out and an anxious Jane waits to hear the verdict. Maura appears to have a concussion, but instead of going home to rest she heads back to the lab to try and link any physical evidence to Alice. Jane insists Maura needs to take it easy and tells her best friend that if she doesn’t shell arrest her. She’s joking of course, but she’s worried and knows Maura will push herself to solve this case. Next to her family, Maura is the most important person in Jane’s life, but just like her bestie Maura is stubborn. The Medical Examiner promises to take it easy and rely on Kent (Adam Sinclair) her assistant. Maura, always the problem solver, gets a bell so she can ring for Kent like a queen to her servants and let’s be real, Maura’s nickname is the “Queen of the Dead.” So, this bell idea is fitting. Jane laughs at the idea, mostly because Kent drives her crazy and this is great payback. The bell seems to work until Jane notices Maura isn’t in her office and Kent just let her leave. Jane rips into Kent and tells him he was supposed to watch her and then demands to know where she went. The M.E. assistant tells her Maura went to the hospital and Jane is livid. At the hospital, Maura is getting a cat scan to make sure all is good in that overactive brain of hers, but the scan shows a brain anomaly. Jane knows something is wrong, but Maura says she’s fine. She’s definitely hiding something from Jane. Her concussion is more serious then she’s letting on, but with all the Alice drama she stays quiet. Just like Maura, Nina is dealing with the aftermath of the shooting and comes out of surgery fine with Frankie (Jordan Bridges) by her side. He’s ready to take her home, but for some reason the Boston P.D. has no problems with injured employees working so Nina goes straight to the brig to help with the case.

Tunnels and Teens

When Alice escaped the shootout at Korsak’s (Bruce McGill) wedding the detectives couldn’t figure out how she got away. They later discovered a series of tunnels that run below the city that the homeless use to escape the brutal Boston winters. Alice can come and go without being noticed. Jane assumes someone would have seen her, but it appears Alice is quite convincing because the tunnel’s inhabitants offer no leads. In fact, they seem to be protecting her. Alice seems charismatic and prone to manipulation so it’s no surprise that she’s convinced a group of homeless teens to hide her while sending Jane a message. Jane kept the note a secret and tore it up before anyone, namely Korsak, would find it. Korsack tells Jane she’s too invested in the case and it could destroy her career. He’s both worried and disappointed that Jane would hide evidence in this case. This case, and the pain its putting Jane through, makes Vince consider his retirement. With his new wife Kiki and the Dirty Robber, maybe it’s time to hang up his badge.

Relationships End and New Love Blossoms

While Jane and Frankie are deep into this Alice case, Angela Rizzoli (Lorraine Bracco) is having personal dramas of her own. The daughter of her new boyfriend Ron (Gregory Harrison) confronts her about the shooting. She’s terrified of losing her father and wants to Angela to consider Ron’s family. Ron isn’t a cop and his family is not used to all this violence that surrounds the Rizzolis. It’s a silent plea for Angela to back off on the relationship and Angela feels incredibly guilty. She heads to the hospital where Ron is a doctor and tells him she has to end things. Ron is visibly upset because he really cares for Angela and is willing to take the risk. Angela cares too and that’s why she’s not risking his life. Ron pleads with her to change her mind, but Angela is steadfast her decision.

Traps and the Get Away

Alice has somehow lured Jane to the tunnels where the detective assumes her back up is waiting to help. What she finds is Alice and a group of homeless teens and her back up sealed out of the tunnels. Now it’s just Jane and Alice and her gang of desperate kids. Alice aims her gun at Jane and the orders one of the teens to start shooting the other teens so that way the commotion will make it easier for her to slip away. It works! Alice got away again and Jane Rizzoli is at the end of her rope.

After a few failed leads, Jane is enraged. She meets up with Maura who finally tells her the truth. She has a brain bleed that is effecting her memory and speech. Jane seems devastated, but tries to be supportive and optimistic. Later, an angry detective Rizzoli marches through the pews of a church and heads to the confessional booth. What Jane confesses isn’t what she’s done, but what she plans to do. She asks the priest for forgiveness because she’s going to kill someone. That someone is the thorn in her proverbial side, Alice Sands. She’s had enough of her loved ones paying for a grudge against her. Jane is going to end this once and for all.
