The episode opens in a tent operated by the Church of the Everlasting Rock where a preacher (Jessejames Locorreire) is charging money to heal people who touch a piece of the Philosopher’s Stone. After all the easy marks leave, the preacher is visited by Jobe, (Kamar de los Reyes) who tells the man he’s not worthy of such power. Jobe kills the man and takes the stone. He calls Malcolm (Jeremy Davies) outside the tent and tells Dreyfuss, “I’ve got the third talisman.” But after he hangs up, a hooded figure confronts him. “Don’t fight the pain, surrender to it. You told me that once.” The hooded figure uses magical power to knock Jobe out. “I’ve learned so much from your friends in Hell. Time to put those lessons to use,” The hooded figure says as he takes the talisman from Jobe and leaves.

Ichabod (Tom Mison) gives a rousing speech to Molly’s (Oona Jaffe) Team Bumblebee soccer team. He talks with Diana (Janina Gavanar) about how Molly must learn about her responsibilities as a Witness and expresses regret on not being a father to his own son. Back at The Vault, Team Ichabod review a board of information they have on Malcolm Dreyfuss. “Every supernatural encounter that we’ve had leads back to Dreyfuss,” Alex (Rachel Melvin) says. They realize that Dreyfuss is trying to secure mystical objects. Diana says that as the security guard Jobe killed is listed as a missing person, that gives them reason to question Dreyfuss. So, while he and Diana go to Dreyfuss Industries to do that Ichabod suggests their mystical object expert Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) learn more about the objects Dreyfuss is after.

At Dreyfuss Industries, a young entrepreneur seminar is being conducted. We see an old film of Malcolm and his friend and business partner Ansel (Bjorn DuPaty) at the moment they made a discovery that formed the start of their business. Dreyfuss comes out on stage and talks about how Ansel’s confidence was a key to their success. He reminds the future business entrepreneurs that we don’t know how short this ride called life is and the question is what we make of our ride. The hooded figure who took the talisman from Jobe pulls into the parking garage of Dreyfuss Industries and kills the security guard.

At The Vault, Jake (Jerry Mackinnon) stares at Jenny while she does research. He asks Alex to help him out by paving the way with Jenny. Alex agrees if Jake buys her lunch for the rest of the month and gives her his parking space. It’s a deal. Alex tells Jenny that she found the building inventory list Jenny requested that tells every place that delivers museum pieces to the Smithsonian. When Jenny again catches Jake eyeing her, Alex tells Ms. Mills about the deal she struck with him and offers to cut Jenny in for the free lunches. All Jenny has to do is give Jake a look and small smile and he’s giddy.

Diana and Ichabod are at Dreyfuss Industries where Diana questions Malcolm about his bodyguard Jobe being the last person to see a missing security guard. Ichabod bluntly comments how it comes in handy to have your own personal demon (Jobe) and reminds Malcolm how he told them he sold his soul to the Devil. Their baiting of each other is interrupted when Malcolm is called away because of “a situation.” He’s told that there’s been a breech in his security protocols. A call to the server room reveals that everyone is dead and the hooded figure is there. Diana and Ichabod hear alarms and go off to find Malcolm. Dreyfuss explains that someone put the building in lockdown. An image of the culprit is shown on the monitor. “Ansel?” Malcolm says shocked. “Ansel, your dead business partner?” Diana asks. Ichabod observes that Ansel is taunting Malcolm and questions Dreyfuss about the talisman that Ansel is after. Malcolm dispatches a group of security guards to the server room with the order not to let Ansel leave the building. Ichabod tells Malcolm that his men don’t stand a chance against the dark magic that Ansel is using. Malcolm tells Diana and Ichabod they can wait there, which is the safest room in the place but they refuse. “We will not stand idly by while innocent men pay for your sins,” Ichabod replies.

Diana calls Jake, who puts her on speaker, and tells him that the Dreyfuss building is on lockdown and everyone inside is trapped with a dangerous warlock. Jenny tells her that they are going to work to get them out, but to stay safe in the meantime. Diana and Ichabod find the security guards dead in the server room. Jenny is able to access Dreyfuss Industries’ security footage and it shows Ansel killing the people. Jake notes that the demonic sigils on Ansel’s arms access a different killing spell. “Once you access the sigil, it burns itself out,” Jake explains. He’s going to research how to combat sigil magic. In a lower level of Dreyfuss Industries, Ichabod notices Greek Fire, a substance that can never be extinguished. Ichabod realizes that Ansel plans to destroy the entire building. Ansel finds Malcolm and confronts him about how Dreyfuss’ jealousy was the reason Ansel was banished to a circle of Hell where everyday a new demon took pleasure in his agony as it burned its name into his flesh. With friends like Malcolm Dreyfuss, who needs enemies?! Ansel tells Malcolm that he was able to escape and study and learn what the symbols meant so his greatest pain became his greatest power. Ansel tells Malcolm that he wants his life back. Diana and Ichabod arrive as Ansel is using magic to choke the life out of Malcolm. Ichabod questions Ansel about the Greek Fire. “What good is killing him if I allow everything he’s built to survive?” asks Ansel. Diana shoots at Ansel, but he is able to freeze the bullet. He then uses his magic to put Diana in a choke hold as well. Ichabod knocks Ansel out with a coat rack and then he picks up Diana, carrying her to an elevator where they escape to a lower level of the building with Dreyfuss.

Back at The Vault, Jake tells Alex and Jenny that if someone is reciting a spell at the same time the sigil is being activated by another spell it will deactivate the sigil. Jenny decides to enter the building through the air ducts and use the spell of deactivation.

At Dreyfuss Industries, Diana wakes up. Ichabod assures her that Molly will use her mother’s strength and never know fear. Ichabod tells Malcolm to give Ansel the talisman he seeks in order to stop him. Malcolm tells the story how he was overshadowed by Ansel, who became the face of the company when they first started out. In a jealous rage, Malcolm took the computer servers and information, not caring that the investors would file a lawsuit. As he was driving off, Malcolm heard a face beckon to him in the car asking “What do you want?” This made him turn around and look in the backseat. The momentary distraction caused him to crash into a tree. Dreyfuss survived the crash, but the car with his life’s work went up in flames. Malcolm pleaded with the voice and then woke up in his bed with the computers safe and sound. Jobe appeared with a contract for his soul. Not wanting to lose everything, Malcolm signed and Jobe assured him that “Ansel would be taken care of.” Dreyfuss tells Ichabod he’ll pay in unimaginable ways for all he’s done.

Ansel breaks through the sealed room. He sees The Philosopher’s Stone and assembles it. Unfortunately, it is missing the last piece and will not work. Malcolm tells Ansel he doesn’t have the last piece. The Philosopher’s Stone can bring eternal life. As Ansel is using the sigil to activate a spell to destroy Malcolm, Jenny arrives and chants a spell to deactivate them. “There are other paths to eternity,” Ansel says pulling out a vial of The Greek Fire. Ichabod throws a blade at Ansel’s chest, killing him. But Ansel drops the vial. Diana proves she is indeed a MVP and catches the vial before it hits the floor. They look up and realize that Dreyfuss is gone. “And he’s taken The Philosopher’s Stone,” Ichabod says.

At home, Diana finally tells Molly that she is a Witness, explaining that Molly has been selected for a special mission that will help a lot of people – like she did when she was in the military. Molly wants to be like Diana and help stop bad people.

Back at The Vault, Jake, Alex and Jenny talk about Dreyfuss going missing and how he wanted a map of the laylines. Jenny gets out her computer and maps out the laylines, which show conversion points. The last piece of the talisman can be found in Sleepy Hollow.
