Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I’m constantly working on and evolving my sound, but right now it’s a good mix between something fresh and urban yet still something you could totally dance to and play at a party.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I have so many! One of my biggest influences is Khalid. His music is dope, but also his career is crazy for how young he still is. Definitely a future icon. Also, Miguel is dope. I have his new record on repeat. It’s super vibey.

Q) What do you think it is about your song “Whatever” that fans connect to?

A) I think everyone has had someone they’ve been really into and spent a lot of time with. That is what “Whatever” is about–someone really special.

Q) How does the music video play into the message of the song?

A) The video chronicles my relationship with this girl. It’s not meant to be one fun day, it’s specific moments relationship.

Q) The song hit 600K streams on Spotify in just a few weeks! How did that make you feel?

A) It’s amazing! The fan feedback has been unreal and I’m so excited to put out new content soon. Stay posted!

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) I always write the exact lyrics once there is music because I need to get a feel for the mood of a song before I write the story. I do actually write down song concepts in a notebook, which I bring to all my sessions as inspiration if I’m having some writer’s block.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I’m more involved in the later stages of the production. I’ve been so privileged to work with super creative producers who are on the same page musically as me, which is extremely helpful. I usually step in once there is a pretty solid outline for the beat and make tweaks.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Spencer performance?

A) When I start touring I’ll have released several singles, all of which would be part of the set plus new unreleased music and maybe a cover or two of songs I’m really into at the time.

Q) Will there be an EP or album coming in the near future?

A) I can’t reveal ALL the details on my projects I’m working on right now, but I can confirm that I have more content, music and live shows coming soon!

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) I love performing in my hometown San Francisco because a ton of friends come out to the show and it’s great to have people you know in the crowd supporting! But I love to perform so much that you can put me anywhere and I’ll be happy.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I’d love to collab with either Post Malone or SZA because they’re a huge part of the popular music scene right now, but still doing their own unique things and not abiding by the standard rules of the industry. I admire that so much.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Like I said, I’m spinning the new Miguel album War & Leisure all the time. I also love Sabrina Claudio’s record “About Time.”

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) I love using social media to give my fans a little sneak peek into my real life! It’s tough for people to really get to know me as a person since I only have my first single out at the moment, but my socials get you seventy-five percent there! Check them out at spencerbarnettmusic on Instagram and spencerbarnett on Twitter!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you! I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without your support. So, I am so grateful for the opportunities you all give me. Keep listening to “Whatever” and there more records on the way!
