Supergirl – Bizarro

“Maxwell Lord does have a God-complex, but he’s not an actual God.”

Bizarro-Supergirl is unleashed on National City after Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli) has completed his three-month long project of training, infecting and brainwashing this poor girl, who Kara (Melissa Benoist) believes still has a soul. While Kara is at home with Alex, Bizzaro-Supergirl is throwing a car into a mountain. But maybe it’s not even Supergirl? Maxwell Lord’s vendetta against Supergirl and the aliens rears its head as his new creation, Bizarro, flies around to city working to destroy Kara’s reputation.

“I named her ‘Bizarro.’ I named Supergirl, why not her evil twin?”

Kara’s blossoming relationship with Adam Foster (Blake Jenner) takes off and as they prepare for their first date, Cat (Calista Flockhart) is acting awfully nice towards Kara – she even bought her coffee. Except she still doesn’t know her name is not “Keira.” At CatCo, the new Supergirl antics are cause for concern after so long of backing her actions and while thinking of a way to twist the story. Kara suggests that maybe it’s not the hero, but someone trying to ruin her reputation.

On her first date with Adam, they seem to be having a fantastic time, but it’s cut short when danger is reported for someone to save the day. Making up some lame, half-assed excuse about her grandma falling and going to hospital, Kara heads to save the day, but is interrupted by Bizarro.

“We kill Supergirl!”

Bizarro’s mission is to kill Supergirl. Lord has trained her to hate her and be threatened when she’s around, but built her to be the mirror image of the hero. Freeze vision, fire breath – Bizarro is the opposite of Kara in every way. And stronger. Somehow, Kara manages to save the trapped people and escape her enemy, but not for long.

The DEO tries to figure out how to take down this enemy, while Alex (Chyler Leigh) sends Kara on her make-up date with Adam. She bares her soul to him, telling him about her parents dying and being adopted, which kind of throws a damper in her grandma story from before. But he’s conveniently forgotten and they embrace with the hottest first kiss that has been on TV this year. Until Kara is kidnapped.

But Kara isn’t kidnapped as Supergirl, she’s kidnapped as Kara Danvers. Meaning Maxwell Lord figured out her secret identity. (How was he not fooled by the glasses?!) But never fear! Alex is on site to save Kara with kryptonite! Only, as Bizarro is the mirrored image of Supergirl, it makes her stronger and weakens Kara. Somehow she escapes, but the damage is done. Bizarro’s face-altering form as a mirror image of Supergirl is destroyed, returning her to the face of the broken, damaged girl that Lord took advantage of, whom Kara wants to save.

“I thought this wasn’t going to work because of my baggage. My issues.”

With coupling threats building against Kara and National City, she’s forced to make another hard decision to protect herself and her job: she has to end the relationship with Adam. Adam takes it well, equating it to Kara not being able to get close to anyone, which is probably true because of her crippling affection for James (Mehcad Brooks).

James and Winn (Jeremy Jordan) drink their sorrows away, both over Kara’s affections, or lack thereof, and the night takes an interesting turn: James is kidnapped by Bizarro, when Maxwell Lord tells her to go after the ones Kara loves. Apparently Kara loves James now.

“Keira, we have been worried sick about you! I ordered an amber alert!”

Bizarro is such a great villain. She’s everything Kara is with a little extra flare and lack of social mannerisms. While holding James hostage, she admits Kara’s love for him, saying they’re the same person. But this connection isn’t enough to stop the brainwashing she’s undergone. Once Supergirl arrives, the battle it out until Alex is able to incapacitate her with a mirrored version of kryptonite.

Things get twisty when Alex illegally arrests Maxwell Lord, putting him in one of their alien containment units. Now that he knows about Kara’s secret identity, he’s a threat. A threat that cannot build upon the current threats from Non and Astra.

Bizarro is taken into custody and the DEO begins the process of de-alienizing her, but she’s already become more human and apologized to Kara for the mess that’s occurred. All is well, but not for long, when Kara is attacked by an insect alien in her own apartment.

What do think will happen to Maxwell Lord now that he’s in DEO custody? Will we see Bizarro again? When do you think Cat will learn Kara’s name?
