TaMyya J – God’s Got My Back

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I would say gospel, contemporary, urban. I’m kind of versatile because I have gospel and then I have contemporary and then pop. I have a little bit of reggae on the up and coming album.

Q) Your new single is “God’s Got My Back.” What is the message behind it?

A) The message is that I just want to encourage everyone that no matter what they are going through in their time of life that God has their back. Sometimes we can look at things and think, “This is the way it is supposed to go.” Sometimes though that might not be in God’s plan. God’s timing is always better than our timing. So, I just want to encourage everyone that God has their back no matter what.

Q) What kind of fan response have you been getting to it?

A) It’s been pretty overwhelming! I’m getting so many calls and texts and tweets and messages. It’s a very exciting time for me.

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Well, with this song, this was my concept and idea. I took this song to Damon Stewart of IGA Talent Management and told him how I wanted to write this song. We just came together and created this great production. It was me, Damon and Floyd Thomas.

Q) Do you need music before you can write your lyrics?

A) Either way. Sometimes I can be in my car and I’ll think of a concept. Later on that night or the next week, I’ll come up with words. Sometimes I can just come up with a melody and hum a song and then I’ll write my words from there. I don’t really have a style with the way that I write.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song?

A) There are so many great artists. That’s a really good question. I would love to collaborate with Fred Hammond. I love Fred Hammond! He’s a great awesome worshiper. I would love to do a song with him.

Q) Will there be a video coming out for “God’s Got My Back?”

A) A lyric video is up, but the actual video will be coming out soon. I don’t have a date yet, but it is coming soon.

Q) Will there be an EP or album coming soon?

A) Yes, my album will be coming out in January 2017. The album is called Love For Your Name.

Q) Where did you get the inspiration for the album’s name?

A) One of my songs on the album is called “Love For Your Name” and when I did that song I said, “This is the perfect title for this album.” It just hit me as soon as I completed that song. It talks about God’s love and our names for him, but there is no higher name than that of Jesus.

Q) Your previous song “Champion” went to number fifteen on the Gospel Billboard Chart. How does that make you feel?

A) I was so excited! I couldn’t believe it! I’m so glad that it touched a lot of people. That is another great inspirational, uplifting song that encourages people that no matter that they are champions. So, that was a great song also.

Q) What can fans expect from a live TaMyya J performance?

A) Oh wow! Of course, there is a live band. Lights. I love to put on a full production with dancers, lighting, the band and just having a great time with the fans. I let them come in and just see me.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from your music?

A) First, God and being encouraged. I want them to feel uplifted knowing they can do anything through Christ.

Q) What can fans do to help promote your music?

A) Tweet! Not just retweet. Contact me on my social media (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) and, of course, call local radio stations and request my songs!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s right there. It’s not sending an email and I’ll get back to you two weeks later. You’re right there. So, when you reach out to me I’m right there. I always contact them back and respond to mostly anything. Social media plays a really big part today. It’s another avenue of not just getting your music out there but touching your fanbase of supporters and offering encouraging words. Sometimes you may have a bad day, but one post can help somebody. Social media plays a big part.

Q) Is there anything else you want to be sure fans know about your music?

A) I have my live DVD recording coming up on October 14th. It will be in North Carolina at the Calvary Revival Church and I would love for everyone to come out and support if they can. We have great guests coming. We have Jonathan Nelson and GooGoo Atkins. We have great artists and it is free! So, I would love for you all to come out.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?

A) First, thank you so much for supporting me and please continue to support me. There is more to come!
