The Big Bang Theory – The Birthday Synchronicity

Are we ready to meet baby Wolowitz? By the end of the last episode, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) finally went into labor while Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Stuart (Kevin Sussman) sprung into action. And Howard (Simon Helberg)? Well, he’s a little in shock right now. But how the rest of the group reacts to the news? Downright hilarious!

With “Team Baby” en route to the hospital, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) rouses Amy (Mayim Bialik) from sleep at midnight: it is officially Amy’s birthday. After gifting her with a framed MRI of his brain while thinking of her, Sheldon remembers it is also time for annual coitus. But before Shamy (Sheldon/Amy) can get down to the deed, Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) come-a-knocking with news of Bernadette’s labor.

At the hospital, Nurse Althea (Vernee Watson) advises Bernadette that because her contractions are 12 minutes apart she should head home until they become more frequent. This news reaches Amy, Sheldon, Penny and Leonard as they’re on their way out to the hospital and they head back upstairs.  Back in the apartment, Penny and Leonard are taking advantage of some alone time before being interrupted by Raj, who was thrown out of Casa Wolowitz after revealing to the couple that they were having a little girl. Amy is ready for her birthday sex and to entice Sheldon back into an amorous mood, dons a Hufflepuff costume from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  As she hands him his own Gryffindor robe, Sheldon becomes upset that Amy went without him. Eventually, they get back into the groove until being interrupted by Raj, who was thrown out of Penny & Leonard’s apartment and then they are interrupted again by Penny and Leonard announcing that Bernadette’s water has finally broke. With a sexually frustrated Amy, the group heads out to the hospital.

As the contractions get stronger, Bernadette and Howard try to come up with a proper name for their little girl. Howard mentions possibly naming her Deborah after his mother (Carol Ann Susi), but doesn’t feel that it’s the right name. It’s apparent that he wishes she was around to become a grandmother.

In the waiting room, the gang awaits the good news. Leonard notes that all of them have come so far from where they started. With Bernadette and Howard, then Penny and Leonard and Sheldon and Amy, their scientific discoveries, Howard’s NASA experience, and all those moments in between, they’ve accomplished so much. Raj notes that none of those moments are single-handedly his so the group spends the duration of labor trying to convince Raj that he is important.

Mid-speech, Howard comes out to announce the birth of little Halley Wolowitz! More importantly, he turns to Raj and tells him that he has been appointed Halley’s godfather, an accomplishment that is all his. The group goes to gather at the nursery window trying to find little Halley. When they hear a cry reminiscent of Debbie Wolowitz, they know that must be her.

After spending the beginning of her birthday in a hospital and subsequently at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Amy and Sheldon finally return home to their apartment. Sheldon is no longer upset with Amy for going without him and the Harry Potter adventure has put him in the mood for their yearly coitus. Amy and Sheldon hightail it into the apartment.

Our favorite group of lovable nerds have truly grown up! From Howard becoming a father to Sheldon living with his girlfriend, it has been quite a ride. Join me in the new year when The Big Bang Theory resumes on January 5th. Happy Holidays everyone!
