The Originals – Give ‘Em Hell Kid

The relationship between Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and The Mikaelsons continued to crumble in the wake of Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) death. Marcel’s bitterness and feelings of betrayal intensified resulting in a deadly confrontation.

It was a “Tale of Two Funerals” with the pomp and circumstance of Camille O’ Connell’s Leah Pipes) service vs the somber occasion of Davina Claire’s. Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) gives a touching eulogy to Davina. “Let her enduring light show us the way in the darkness,” he says.

Meanwhile at Cami’s wake, Detective Kinney (Jason Dohring) makes a surprise appearance. He questions Klaus (Joseph Morgan) about how she died. Klaus is vague in his response saying it was an accident. After Kinney walks away, Klaus notices Marcel put a flower on Cami’s casket. Understanding his brother’s pain, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) offers comfort to Klaus that Marcel just needs time. But Klaus realizes that he has to speak with him before Marcel’s anger escalates.

Meanwhile, Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) is taking his pain out on Freya (Riley Voelkel) for sacrificing Davina. He’s leaving town and they can all go to Hell for all he cares! When he is alone, Kol sees Davina’s spirit. A vampire is being haunted by a witch who is now a ghost!

Marcel tells Josh (Steven Krueger) about the serum that will make him as powerful as Lucien, but Josh reminds that things didn’t turn out well for Lucien, because regardless of the bickering between the Mikaelsons, they will always stand together. Josh urges Marcel not to take the serum. “That’s not what Davina would want,” Josh tells Marcel.

Freya is trying to find out whether what Lucien said about the prophecy still holds true. When she touches Elijah’s arm, she gets a vision of the prophecy. In the vision, Marcel is their greatest evil. Since Elijah knows that Klaus is planning on talking with Marcel, he has to find his brother.

Klaus talks with Marcel and reiterates to him that they are family. “You and I are bonded by fate, history and blood,” says Klaus. “I’m family? I don’t think so. Always and forever is an excuse to do whatever the hell you want,” is Marcel’s response. Even though Klaus always called him “son” and “family,” Marcel finally realizes he’s always been an outsider looking in. “You were my mentor, my savior, my sire, but you’ve never been my brother. And now, you’re nothing to me.”

Marcel vs The Mikaelsons isn’t the only war taking place in New Orleans. Another fraction is mobilizing as Vincent is surprisingly joined by Detective Kinney in a plan to take the city back from the Ancestors.

Vincent has a magical box that he got from his crazy but super powerful witch wife Eva that could take the power of the Ancestors. What Vincent wants to do is place the box in a location and set it off like a bomb so the Ancestors’ connection to the land of the living is destroyed. The only problem is that the Ancestor bomb has to be set off in the spirit world. How can Vincent do that? “He has to die,” says Kol, who has arrived and wants part of the plan. Kol tells them that he has seen Davina and believes part of her soul is connected to those she loves. He needs to see her again so Kol is coming with Vincent!

Still trying to get through to Marcel, Klaus brings him to the bridge the Mikaelson family travelled when the first arrived in New Orleans. It is also the place where Marcel spread the ashes of his abusive father. Klaus had just turned Marcel and as a new vampire, his emotions were heightened. Klaus wanted to help Marcel control his anger and rage, almost like he’s trying to do now. Klaus tells Marcel that even though he was proud of him, as any father would be of a son, he also worried that as Marcel became his own man so he’d be better than him. “I never wanted to be better than you, not until you started trying to hold me down,” Marcel spats. Elijah arrives and tries to talk Marcel out of doing something he’ll regret when Marcel pulls the serum from his pocket. Marcel says that as much as Klaus insists, he is not a part of the Mikaelson family. Klaus sees himself as king. “But the thing about kings is that they all fall,” Marcel adds. Fearful that the prophecy is coming to life, Elijah does the one thing he can to protect his family – he rips out Marcel’s heart! He then tosses Marcel’s body in the river. First Cami, then Davina and now Marcel? “The Originals,” what are you doing to me?!

Back at witch central, Vincent and Kol drink hemlock so they can die then hold Josh’s hand so he can anchor them to the living. In the spirit world, Vincent and Kol see Davina. She knows what they are planning. After Vincent puts the bomb in place, Davina uses her magic to send him back to the land of the living. She wants Kol to tell Josh not to be sad. Kol thanks Davina for helping him come alive again after being dead for centuries. They share a farewell kiss and then Davina sends Kol back, too. “Give ‘em hell, Davina Claire,” Kol says proudly as she sets off the bomb destroying the Ancestors’ link.

Klaus is sad at the loss of his surrogate son. Elijah tries to explain that once they let Davina die to save their family, they lost Marcel. “I had no choice,” he states. “Do you really believe that?” Klaus asks before walking away.

Elijah returns home and sadly tells Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) what he’s done. “Forgive me,” Elijah cries as he gets down on his knees. Later, Hayley reminds Klaus that Elijah is hurting and asks him to forgive his brother. “You sound like Camille,” Klaus says. Later, Hayley tries to comfort Elijah, who passionately kisses her.

Klaus arrives at Marcel’s home and informs Josh and Vincent that Marcel is dead. Then, he leaves. Josh feels guilty because he talked Marcel out of taking the serum. Vincent drops a bombshell: “Marcel took the serum the minute I offered it to him.” In the depth of the river, Marcel opens his eyes. He’s alive. Now the Mikaelsons will really have Hell to pay!

Next week it’s the season finale. Can’t wait to see Marcel get his revenge against the MIkaelsons. And of yeah, Rebecca’s back!
