Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Sofya (Taylor Cole) are spending a nice evening together when Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) arrives to tell him that the kids they rescued never arrived home. Marcel doesn’t understand what happened as he was the one who helped put the children into the ambulance that also seems to be missing.

Meanwhile, Detective Will Kinney (Jason Dohring) takes the children to the Lead Acolyte of The Hollow (Michael Beasley) and tells him that the kids have been sedated and are ready for the ritual. Detective Kinney assures that no one will stop them from doing what they need to do. Not even his friend Vincent.

Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) are back in New Orleans and at the Mikaelson place with a sick Hope (Summer Fontana).  Vincent reminds that they can only stay until Hope is better but must immediately leave afterwards. He performs some sort of purification of Hope, but as they child starts to go to Klaus ravens begin appearing all around, falling dead. Hope asks whether they can hear the whispers that she hears. Vincent tells them the whispers are saying “The Hollow” in Creole. The dead ravens form a perfect circle around Hope and Hayley. Hope’s fever is back and she wants to see her father.  However, Klaus is full of rage wanting to kill whatever is hurting his daughter.  Hayley encourages Klaus to stay with Hope while she sees what Marcel can do to help, but Elijah reminds her that Marcel is not the same as they knew and is not their ally.

Freya (Riley Voelkel) is still working with Keelin (Christina Moses) on the cure, but has to go to New Orleans because her niece Hope is sick.  Keelin needs to get some of Marcel’s venom, but is not eager to go up against the powerful vampire. Freya gives Keelin a ring that will help to cure her lychanthropy, but Keelin must help her first.

Displaying a father’s love, Klaus tells Hope that once she is well he will take her any place she wants to go in the world. The little girl says that her mother told her how much Klaus loves New Orleans. Klaus says that’s true, he did love New Orleans very much once but has come to realize that it’s more important putting your love in people and not a place.

Vincent meets with the witches in the church and tells them that there are some of them who have begun sacrificing humans to a very dark, angry and powerful spirit known as The Hollow. Elijah enters and says that his family will make sure that The Hollow is dealt with.  After the witches leave, Elijah assures that the Mikaelsons will do whatever they can to protect the children.  Vincent thinks that’s a joke as Elijah and his family couldn’t care less about Davina. To Vincent, Elijah is a cold and merciless killer.  Elijah isn’t insulted; if it means saving Hope, he’ll be the Devil himself. Vincent reluctantly agrees to work with the Mikaelsons.

It is Marcel’s turn to address the witches.  He tells them that they have all lived together peacefully for five years.  But now someone has broken his carnal rule, which is that you don’t mess with kids. He directs them to the sigils on the wall and says someone knows who is responsible. When a witch tells Marcel that they don’t owe him anything, Hayley makes her presence known and asks for the witches’ help; she knows what Marcel has done, what all of them have done.  But right now, she’s just a mother trying to save her seven-year-old daughter.  A witch tells Hayley about a wolf named Laura, who had written the same symbol in blood on her window before running off to the bayou.

Freya and Keelin have gotten inside Marcel’s and are searching for his venom.  Keelin questions Freya about why she’s keeping it a secret from the rest of the Mikaelsons that she is going after Marcel.  Freya answers that when it comes to Marcel, despite everything he has done to them, her family still seem to have a sort of blind loyalty.  Freya then finds a wall safe.

Vincent tells Elijah that although he can hear this thing that is corrupting people, he is able to block it out. Griffith wonders whether working with Elijah will be a liability.

Hope doesn’t know what The Hollow is, but can feel it because it wants her just like it wants that other kids. Klaus vows that he won’t let anything get her. “I will keep you safe always and forever.”

While Vincent is performing a spell, he is able to see Detective Will Kenney with the Lead Acolyte of The Hollow. Hayley tells Marcel that she will deal with this wolf Laura, but Girard warns her that Laura could try to kill her. When Hayley meets Laura, the wolf tells her that she knows who she is and the kids are as good as dead.

Detective Will Kenney has a drink with Vincent but pulls a gun on Griffith and tells him that he should have done what The Hollow wanted and things would have been different for all of them. If one evil is done, it will rid the entire New Orleans of all the evil that is plaguing it. Kinney is there to fetch Vincent and fires his gun. But Elijah intervenes and tells Will that if he wants to see a monster, Elijah can let the monster inside of him come out.

Hope is asleep, but Klaus is talking with his daughter telling her that she has the warrior heart of a Mikaelson and therefore is not match for this thing – no matter how powerful it is.  Hope wakes up briefly and tells her father that she saw the other children and that they are scared. She tells him that if he sees the blue lights he can’t look at them.

As Freya is unable to crack Marcel’s safe, Keelin offers to do it so Freya can be with Hope.  Keelin assures that they will meet up later.

Elijah tries, but is unsuccessful in breaking through Will Kinney’s mind. Vincent reminds that Will is as much a victim as the kids.

Laura and Hayley talk. Laura tells Hayley that the ones who serve The Hollow and follow the blue light are the ones who took the kids.  Laura and the wolves just wanted to take New Orleans away from Marcel as the city doesn’t just belong to the vampires; it belongs to all of them. She accuses Hayley of abandoning the wolves. Laura says that as much as Hayley wants to save the children, she won’t be able to because The Hollow will sacrifice those kids to get more power. But Laura won’t live to see it as she kills herself.

Vincent tells Elijah that it’s his (Vincent) fault that The Hollow is here. Will is able to break free from the restraints that Elijah and Vincent had him in and escaped. But Vincent used magic in order to put a tracer on Kinney. Klaus soon joins Elijah and Vincent in the bayou where Vincent tells Klaus that the spell being used on the kids to give The Hollow power and once they free the kids, Hope will be saved.  Marcel is all for saving the kids and Hope quickly so the Mikaelsons can leave New Orleans. Girard vows to save the kids to prove that he’s a better king than Klaus ever was.

Elijah and Vincent are joined by Hayley as they attempt to stop The Hollow and blue light that is drawing the followers.  Will comes to the Lead Acolyte and tells him he’s there to do The Hollow’s bidding. Vincent tries to grab the kids while Klaus deals with the Lead Acolyte.  Klaus also snaps Kinney’s neck.  But Klaus and Marcel end up getting trapped in a circle of fire; which was The Hollow’s plan all along in order to channel the vampires’ power to help bring it into their world.  The kids are still alive, but as they are linked to the spell, the only way to stop the spell is to kill one of the kids. Not an option.  However, if Elijah were to die (at least temporarily) the spell could be broken. Vincent was right because after Hayley stakes Elijah and he dies, the spell is broken.  Freya is with Hope who says she’s not cold anymore. The kids are reunited with their parents. Keelin meets up with Freya, who gives her the wolf ring with a spell tailored to her.

Hayley asks Elijah that if they hadn’t found another way to break the spell and save Hope, would he had hurt the kids? Elijah answers that he would have done whatever was necessary.  Hayley realizes that they need to stop putting the well-being of their family above all others.

Marcel and Vincent have a drink.  Vincent says that The Hollow was trying to enter their world by using one of them as an anchor.  Griffith wonders whether they stopped it for good.  Later that night, Marcel sees the blue light in a mirror and stares into it.  Meanwhile, Hope screams when she sees Klaus’ eyes are a blue light. She jumps up from her nightmare and says “It’s here. The Hollow, it’s here!”
