The Vampire Diaries – The Lies Will Catch Up to You

Last Friday’s episode of “The Vampire Diaries was titled The Lies Will Catch Up to You. This was quoted by Damon after Stefan had locked him in the basement for being a threat and possibly exposing what they are. “You won. You got the bad guy. Now nothing can come between you and Elena except the truth. The lies will catch up to you Stefan, as long as you keep lying to yourself about what you are.”  It was a fitting choice considering Stefan was all about lies catching up to him when he finds out that those he had compelled were now remembering what he had made them forget.

All Your Crimes Will Catch Up To You

So who is cleaning up Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) mess? That would be Caroline (Candice King) after Matt (Zach Roerig) reveals to her that the police station is being flooded with people reporting old crimes that involved our not so friendly Ripper. Alright, so while Caroline is being the good on again, off again fiancé Stefan is being greeted to all those lies that are finally catching up to him. Remember Alaric’s (Matt Davis) intern Dorian who said how his father and sister died in a house fire? Not true, he was led to believe that because Stefan had compelled him. Apparently, Dorian had been victim to Stefan and Klaus during their murder rampage back in season three. Now it makes sense why we find out the person that kidnapped Stefan was Dorian (Demetrius Bridges) because he wants revenge.

Hungry, Hungry Psycho

Enough about Stefan though. Let’s get to the moment that fans waited for the most and that’s Kai’s (Chris Wood) return. Yup, our favorite psychopath is back (with his head) and before he gets to business he briefs Alaric and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) on how he’s back. Since the Maxwell Bell had rung for the eleventh time, Kai found himself back in the Mystic Grill. So what did he do first? He did what only Kai would do – ordering all he could eat only to be greeted by the fact he couldn’t taste anything. Looks like he’s alive, sort of, and because of this he pitches a fit killing one of the waiters. Basically, Kai is between land of the living and still stuck in hell. The psycho still, unfortunately, has his magic but only when he siphons himself. Since hell isn’t a fan favorite of his he makes it known that he needs to find a way to stay in the land of the living. Alaric and Damon could care less and just as Alaric is about to send him straight to hell Kai pulls a Godfather on Damon and makes him an offer he can’t refuse – bringing Elena back.

Coffee with a Side of Not So Devilish Delight

Damon doesn’t need to be told twice, which results in him calling Bonnie (Kat Graham) hoping that she’s discovered a way to bring Enzo (Michael Malarkey) back from hell. If she found a solution for Enzo maybe there can be one for Kai as well. Sadly, Bonnie hasn’t found Enzo, but she has found something else – Kai. While Damon tries to get anything out of Bonnie, Kai is in the backseat pestering Damon wanting to have a quick second to say hi to her. Bonnie is in no shape or form willing to help Kai, but his return does give her a sense of hope because if Kai can return then Enzo can as well. With this, she ends the call with Damon and decides to get answers straight from the devil himself.

How many people can say that they had coffee with the devil? Bonnie Bennett can. Well, it’s never wise to make a deal with the devil, but because she’s desperate for help she decides to let Cade (Wole Parks) teach her about her newly acquired gift. In order to reach Enzo, Bonnie has to open up her mind to Cade so that they can reach Enzo together. Yeah, this isn’t good. In a way it almost feels like expression because in order to find Enzo, Bonnie has to focus on the anger and hate she felt for Stefan during the moment of Enzo’s death. Luckily, Bonnie does find him but Enzo is quick to warn her that she needs to stay away from Cade. So why is Cade being so helpful? Enzo’s soul hasn’t been claimed by Cade yet. Enzo is not in hell, which means Cade is desperate to find him so that he can collect.

Of course, when Bonnie returns back to the coffee shop Cade eagerly asks if Enzo was found. Since she’s horrible at lying and Cade most likely can read her mind he knows she isn’t being truthful. It’s easy to understand why when she makes a hasty exit, Cade is waiting. It takes a lot to impress the devil and Bonnie has done that. Remember that psychic pulse of a scream Bonnie released upon Enzo’s death? Just like Cade she created an entirely new world and, unfortunately, Cade can’t enter it because this dimension is linked only to her. Angry at this revelation, Cade reads Bonnie’s mind only to discover that Kai is out of hell and on the loose.

Selfies Served with a Nuisance

Damon once told Elena (Nina Dobrev) he wanted to be the father of her kids. Does babysitting Kai Parker count as him getting experience? Sitting in a cafe he has to endure Kai trying to take selfies with him to post on his Twitter account. What’s the most amusing part of CobraKai? The fact that Alaric is still following him because following the psychopath who killed your wife and your chance of happiness makes total sense! Bit by bit, Kai seems to be running out of time when his nose begins to bleed. And because Damon foolishly mentioned the sirens, Kai believes he needs to kill a big bad so that he can siphon. Damon is quick to reveal to Kai he’s no longer in the murdering business because he wants to keep his future with Elena, but Kai is fast to remind him he already pretty much screwed that up. Realizing that Kai makes a good point they turn their attention to the sleazy cook at the diner.

However, Damon gets wind that Cade is aware of Kai being out which results in Damon creating his own plan. He believes that the only hope Kai has to save himself is finding redemption. In order to find redemption, he needs to be forgiven and if it’s not Alaric who is going to forgive him it’s Damon. Kai is the reason why Damon’s happiness and chance of a future with Elena had been ripped away, but if Kai can bring Elena back he’s willing to forgive him.

Touch of Death, Breath of Life

This just in, Dorian shot Stefan. Mister Hero Hair tried to convince Dorian not to shoot him because if he dies he’s taking a first class trip to hell. Of course, Dorian is too focused on revenge to listen which results in him shooting Stefan. Seeing a human Stefan suffering though is enough for him to regret his choice, which causes him to call Matt for help. While on the phone Caroline overhears this and rushes to Stefan’s side. Meanwhile, with Stefan getting closer to shaking hands with the reaper Cade appears at his side. The devil has come to collect.

You know how when someone is close to biting the bust, but they’re too stubborn to cross the finish line? That’s Stefan. Cade gives Stefan a heart to heart chat telling him that if he’s to die today Caroline will no longer suffer. Think about it for a second; ever since Stefan became the Ripper she’s been cleaning up his messes. Ever since he turned human she’s still cleaning up his messes. The poor girl can’t catch a break. What’s her life going to be like during the next fifty years? Pretty much this. It would be a blessing in disguise if Stefan chose death, but he’s not ready to just yet. “That’s only human,” Cade reasons before Stefan’s eyes open as he comes back to life.

So you’re back to being alive Stefan what are you going to do? Well, he’s giving Dorian the chance to deliver true justice. Stefan has requested that Matt give Dorian all the police files that link Stefan to all his past crimes. Stefan’s fate is in Dorian’s hand. Also, while Stefan waits for Dorian’s choice he has no problem being mopey and feeling sorry for himself. Caroline has been working her ass off trying to prove to Stefan that they can make it work, but he’s not doing anything. Instead, he’s telling her that he wants to leave Mystic Falls so he can discover himself. Really? Stefan you’re over one hundred and seventy years old. If you haven’t found yourself yet then honestly there is no hope for you. Grow up man.

A Disappearing Act

Caroline, has had a rough day. It started with her having to meet with people who had been compelled by Stefan, who remembered and compelling them to forget again. The woman is pretty exhausted and it only got worse when Stefan pretty much told her he wants to find himself without her in the picture. What brings happiness? Your loved ones. Caroline was more than happy to see her girls, but much to her horror she’s greeted to a new problem. The twins are acting out and to make matters worse they’re using their magic to do it. One actually almost sets her own twin on fire! What’s crazier is this began three days ago right when the bell rang.

The episode ends with Damon and Kai entering the crypt. Instantly, we can see the hope on his dark features because he’s seconds away from reuniting with his light. Unfortunately, since Kai is Kai he siphons all of Damon’s energy and uses it to pull a disappearing act with the coffin. So why didn’t he want redemption? Simply he believes hell makes you realize redemption doesn’t exist. He’s not a good person and if he’s going to be back out he’s doing it with a bang. Kai, we missed you, but now we hope you lose your head again and burn in hell.
