Q) What are some of the recent projects that you have been working on?

A) Playing Nekeisha on “The Carmichael Show” is what is keeping my busy every week.  I also have the Keegan-Michael Key & Jordan Peele film Keanu coming out on April 29th.  I feel very blessed.

Q) What can you tease or share about the new season of “The Carmichael Show?”

A) I know Bill Cosby is going to have something to say about premiere episode.  The wonderful thing about “The Carmichael Show” is that transcends all generational gaps. Each episode almost brings about a platform for conversation.

Q) Is there anything that you’ve added to the role that wasn’t originally scripted?

A) The writers do an amazing job of taking stuff from our personal background and putting it into our characters. For example, I was raised in foster homes so don’t be surprised if I talk about this on the show.

Q) What is your favorite part of performing in front of a live audience?

A) One of the best things about the show is that we shoot in front of a live audience.  As a stand-up comedian, I just love the immediate feedback the audience gives out after you say your lines.

Q) You are a part of social media, how is it getting that other type of instant fan feedback after the episodes air?

A) The feedback has been great! A lot people will tell me, “I know some exactly like Nekeisha.” The funny thing is they will never say its them, but it’s always some crazy aunt or relative.

Q) Has comedic timing always come naturally or is it something that you have studied and honed?

A) I have to say, comedic timing comes natural to me. But I’ve worked on it for years when doing it stand-up. You might say, I’m constantly honing it.

Q) The cast has such amazing chemistry, did that take time to develop or was that connection right from the start?

A) I guess we are luckier than other shows in that Jerrod [Carmichael], LilRel [Howery] and I have known each other for a long time because of stand-up.  So, once we got on the set, it was an instant connection. And everybody is so easy to work with. Also, I’ve been a big fan of Loretta [Devine] and David [Alan Grier] for a long time.  You couldn’t ask for a nicer cast.

Q) Will we be seeing any special guest stars this season?

A) Yes, there will be, but I can’t say anything. They want to keep it a surprise.

Q) What has been your favorite moment of filming so far?

A) What I really like is that during shooting breaks with the show, I get to break out a sing a little bit.

Q) What would you like to say to fans for their support?

A) Dreams definitely come true. I pinch myself every day about what has happened to me. I was kid living in foster homes; I even lived my car for a little car. But now I’m on TV every week. Life is good.
