The season finale of “Timeless” ends with as many questions as it does answers.  In a flashback, Garcia Flynn (Goran Visnjic) checks his daughter’s closet with a water gun for monsters as Iris (Charlotte Anne Marcynuk) and Lorena (Erica Carroll) watch.  Iris is still scared of monsters and Flynn assures her that he will always protect her.  In the present, Flynn wakes up and Emma Whitmore (Annie Wersching) informs him that two of his men have bailed on the mission.  Flynn is disappointed that they left before the final mission: taking out all of Rittenhouse at the 1954 summit.  Flynn asks Emma if she wants to bail as well, but she says that she’s staying.

In the present, Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer) and Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter) drag an injured Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett) out of the lifeboat as soon as it lands in the warehouse.  Rufus insists that he not go to a hospital and Lucy calls her fiancé, Noah (Daniel DiTomasso).  Noah stitches him up and insists that Rufus be taken to a hospital.  He is suspicious that he was called to stitch up a man in a warehouse, but Lucy tells him that he can’t ask questions.  After trying to apologize for her behavior, she tells him that he doesn’t know the real her and she can’t be his fiancé.  He assumes that it’s because of Wyatt, but she denies it.

Agent Denise Christopher (Sakina Jaffrey) arrives after having rescued Jiya (Claudia Doumit) from Mason Industries.  Wyatt informs everyone that Flynn has jumped to 1954 and Jiya wonders whether they should just let Flynn kill all of Rittenhouse.  Lucy admits that she’s considered it, but Wyatt insists that Flynn needs to be stopped.  Wyatt asks Rufus if he is okay to pilot the lifeboat and helps him up.  He is in pain as he tries to stand up and Wyatt asks Jiya if she can pilot the machine.  She says that she spent a lot of time in the simulator, but she has died a lot.  Rufus tells them that the machine is only built for three people.  Their argument is interrupted by Rittenhouse closing in on the warehouse.  Lucy, Wyatt, Rufus and Jiya all pile into the machine and travel to 1954 as Agent Christopher allows herself to be arrested.

Agent Christopher asks Connor Mason (Paterson Joseph) and Jake Neville (Jim Beaver) for an attorney.  The team makes it to 1954 and Lucy figures that they should start their search for the Rittenhouse summit by asking Senator Joseph McCarthy (Spencer Garrett).  Wyatt tells Rufus to stay with Jiya and she remarks that Wyatt and Lucy are still in their 1930s clothes.  In McCarthy’s office, Flynn asks him where the Rittenhouse meeting is and McCarthy threatens to call security. Flynn blackmails him into telling him so he writes down that address and tells Flynn that he will never win against Rittenhouse.  Before he leaves, Flynn gives him pictures of Lucy and Wyatt and identifies them as Russian spies.

On their way to McCarthy’s office, the FBI intercepts Lucy and Wyatt.  As they wait by the lifeboat, Rufus sees that Jiya’s eye has turned red.  She insists that it’s just bloodshot, but Rufus is concerned.  Flynn goes to talk to Lucy and tells her that his plan involves murdering her grandfather, Ethan Cahill (Jonathan Tchaikovsky).  He admits that he doesn’t know what that means for her fate.  She asks him why he’s telling her and thinks that there is a human part of him that wants her to stop him.  He assumes that she thinks of him as a monster and she tells him that she now thinks of him as a broken person who misses his family.  She tells him that she wants to help him stop Rittenhouse, but not with mass murder.  When she fails to come up with an alternative solution, he says goodbye to her.

In the interrogation, McCarthy accuses Wyatt of being a communist spy.  Wyatt laughs at him and calls him a coward and a bully.  His men try to attack Wyatt, but he takes them out easily.  Wyatt and Lucy escape from the building and evade capture.  Lucy tells him about her grandfather and they decide to follow him to the summit.  Mason tells Agent Christopher to come with him, but she doesn’t trust him.  He shows her data he’s been collecting on Rittenhouse using the NSA software for which he was recently granted access.  He admits that he’s been building a case against Benjamin Cahill (John Getz) while he’s been pretending to support Rittenhouse.  Agent Christopher asks why she should trust him and he tells her that he is concerned for Rufus, as Rittenhouse will view him as expendable as soon as Jiya is able to pilot the lifeboat.

In the parking lot, Wyatt and Lucy hotwire a car and follow Ethan as he gets in his car and drives away.  They follow Ethan into a club and Lucy realizes that it is a gay bar.  Rufus attempts to call Wyatt, but Jiya assures him that there’s nothing to worry about.  She suddenly collapses and Rufus catches her as she falls.  Wyatt is surprised that Lucy’s grandfather is gay and Lucy tells him that being gay was illegal in the 1950s.  Ethan locks eyes with Wyatt and Wyatt is uncomfortable at being looked at like a piece of meat (ironic).  They walk over to Ethan and confirm his identity.  He denies who he is and tells them that he has a wife and son.  Lucy asks if his son is named Ben and he is suspicious of her.  He offers to pay them, but Lucy tells him that she wants him to take them to the Rittenhouse summit.

As Rufus cradles Jiya in his arms, he tells her that he’s wanted to tell her that he loves her for a very long time.  He asks her to hold on so that he can stop holding back and tell her how he feels.  Jiya starts to have a seizure in his arms.  As they drive to the meeting, Ethan remarks that Lucy looks familiar.  Lucy says that her father is in Rittenhouse and they discuss Flynn’s intention to destroy all of the association.  Ethan tells them that Rittenhouse will kill him if they find out that he is gay.  He talks about all of the ways that he’s tried to stop his gayness, but Lucy assures him that there’s nothing wrong with him.  He tells him that he was caught in bed with his friend and his father beat him before telling him about Rittenhouse.  He says that he would be grateful to Flynn if he destroyed Rittenhouse once and for all.

As they arrive at the mansion that houses the summit, Wyatt figures that Flynn will probably try to blow up the house from the basement.  He asks Ethan to distract the guards so they can get in.  Down in the basement, they see that Flynn is preparing a large number of explosives.  Before Wyatt can shoot, Lucy calls out to Flynn.  Standing between Wyatt and Flynn’s guns, Lucy tells Flynn that she wants to help him.  Lucy asks both of them to stand down and she tells Flynn that she knows that he doesn’t want to kill people.  Flynn insists that it’s the only way, but Lucy isn’t sure that destroying Rittenhouse will bring his family back.  Lucy has come up with a solution to bring down Rittenhouse that focuses on fixing the present instead of the past.  Lucy reminds him that the journal said that she would help him one day and asks Wyatt to trust her.

They drive Ethan to the lifeboat and Rufus informs them of Jiya’s condition.  He is angry when he sees Flynn with them and Lucy introduces him to Ethan.  Unable to believe that the lifeboat is a time machine, Ethan assumes that it’s an elaborate movie prop.  Lucy tells Rufus and Wyatt to take Jiya in the lifeboat and that she will return with Flynn in the mothership.  Wyatt is worried about losing Lucy again, but Lucy assures him that it will be okay.  Wyatt, Rufus and Jiya climb into the lifeboat and Ethan is amazed as it disappears into thin air.  Lucy tells him that she is his granddaughter and Ethan realizes that she reminds him of his mother.  Lucy and Flynn tell him that it would be dangerous for Rittenhouse to get its hands on the time machine and asks for his help.

In the present, Lucy and Wyatt visit an older Ethan Cahill (Bruce Gray) in the nursing home.  He is thrilled to reunite with her and tells her that he almost gave up many times.  He asks Wyatt to bring over a clock where he has hidden a piece of paper with an address written on it.  They find that the address contains all of the files that Ethan collected on Rittenhouse throughout the years.  Agent Christopher and Mason walk in and Wyatt points his gun at Mason.  Agent Christopher tells them that Mason is working with them now and that he helped her escape Mason Industries.  Mason offers his software to help use the files to bring down Rittenhouse.  Rufus visits Jiya in the hospital and she tells him that she heard everything he told her back in 1954.  She tells him that she’s waited sixty years to tell him that she loves him too and they kiss.  Suddenly, Jiya’s eyes flicker and her vision of the Golden Gate Bridge outside her window switches from present day to the initial building of the bridge.

At Mason Industries, Agent Christopher struts in and has Benjamin and Neville arrested.  Lucy meets with Flynn and gives him a flash drive with the name of his family’s killers so that he can get his family back.  Flynn thanks her and gives her the journal back.  She asks where he got it from and he tells her that she will give it to him in the future and that she has aged well.  Before he can elaborate, Agent Christopher and several officers surround Flynn.  Lucy argues with Agent Christopher about whether Flynn should be arrested and Flynn is furious that Lucy betrayed him.

Agent Christopher tells Lucy and Wyatt that they’ve made over 150 arrests of Rittenhouse members and that agents are picking up the mothership.  Lucy argues that Flynn helped as well and that he should be allowed to try and save his family, but Agent Christopher tells her that she did her job.  She tells Lucy that she has been given clearance to allow one more mission to get her sister back.  Lucy asks Wyatt if he’ll go back to Pendleton now and Wyatt promises to keep in touch.  After some banter, they hug and Wyatt realizes that he doesn’t want to leave yet.  She apologizes that he wasn’t able to get his wife back and he admits that he wants to look towards the present and be open to possibilities.  Mason comes over and tells them that have three hours before they go on the mission.

Lucy tells her mother Carol Preston (Susanna Thompson) about Amy.  She doesn’t believe her and Lucy goes to great lengths to try and convince her that Amy is a real person.  She tells her mother that she was sick in the other timeline and promises to save her as well.  They embrace and her mother assures her that she won’t lose her as Rittenhouse wouldn’t allow it.  After confirming that her mother said Rittenhouse Carol tells her that she and her father come from Rittenhouse families. So, it appears that Lucy is actually Rittenhouse royalty.  Her mother tells her that Rittenhouse has an operative on the mothership that is revealed to be Emma.  She assures Lucy that Rittenhouse will change history.
