Vanessa Morgan – Finding Carter

Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?

A) I had a small part in Guilty At 17, which was on Lifetime recently. Other than that, “Finding Carter” is my only project.

Q) What was it about your character or the show “Finding Carter” that made you want to be a part of it?

A) The script is amazing, especially having Terri Minsky as the writer who also worked on “Lizzie McGuire” and “Sex and the City.” I found the subject was something everyone could relate to, like what if you had your mom and you loved her so much, but then you found out she was your abductor. You are thrown into this new life. I really liked the writing of the script and I think Bird is a cool character. She is kind of a tormented soul party girl, but she is someone I haven’t played before. I thought it was a cool part to play.

Q) What do you think it is about MTV that makes the show a good fit for the network?

A) I think they are a great fit because anytime there is something in the script that you aren’t comfortable with they are really good at making sure everybody is comfortable. The cast really works well together. It just seems like a perfect fit for me and playing Bird is pretty easy, minus some of her more scandalous episodes. Other than that, she is a really chill character to play. It was a pretty easy role for me to transition into.

Q) Was there anything about the role that you added that may not have been scripted for you?

A) I think I played it how it was scripted. I think they wanted her to be the kind of queen bee of the show. I think if anything I added maybe I made her more real life and not as stuck up as compared to the other characters. Other than that, I think I played her how they wanted her to be as the rich girl and her friends that she hangs out with are there because her parents ignore her. You’ll see that Bird throughout the season will act out a bit more, unfortunately. If you look back, it’s because she isn’t getting attention from her parents.

Q) Did the cast chemistry come naturally or did it take some time to develop?

A) Actually, it all came really natural. We all got along and there wasn’t anything that we had to slowly transition into to become friends. Everybody got along well and was really chill. I was in Atlanta for three months so it was really cool to become friends with everyone and hang out with them outside of the set. That was really nice, especially Anna Jacoby-Heron. We have become best friends.

Q) You are a part of social media sites. What has it been like interacting with fans and getting that immediate fan feedback?

A) It’s been great! “Finding Carter” has gotten a really great following. Every time an episode is on you can see the interaction between fans of the show. On Twitter, they seem really active and see what people are saying. It’s awesome to be a part of the fan interaction and I’m glad everyone is liking it.

Q) What have been some of your most memorable moments from filming?

A) For me, one of the more memorable moments was probably filming episode four which was more my character’s episode where we get to see her more vulnerable side. She talks about the guy with the hood and mask and maybe why I am a bit off, implying my character was raped. It was probably a more memorable because it showed a more vulnerable side to my character. It gave her more depth.

Q) What do you think it is about the show that has made it a quick fan favorite program?

A) I think it is the content. It’s really, really cool. Like I said before, I think a lot of people will think back and wonder what if their mom had kidnapped them. I think people like the interaction and I feel like there is a really cool parent dynamic. Not just teenagers can watch it. It’s for the whole family to watch together because there is a whole older storyline as well.

Q) Is there anything you can tease will be in store for the remainder of the “Finding Carter” season?

A) There is definitely going to get more crazy every episode now we are seeing the return of Carter’s other mom. There are going to be some very high risk situations there with Carter and Crash. It just starts getting really tense and relationships are getting stronger, which makes things a higher risk when things start developing.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I’m so grateful for fans enjoying anything that I am a part of and working on. If anyone is interested, they can follow me on twitter at @VanessaMorgan because I tweet about the show all the time. Also, I’m @VanMorganXo on Instagram where I post and share photos of what I’m doing .
