What? Edgar Allan Poe’s Murder Mystery Dinner Party A/K/A Poe Party

Who? Created by Sean Persaud and Sinead Persaud. Starring: Sean Persaud, Sinead Persaud, Ashley Clements, Tom DeTrinis, Joey Richter, Mary Kate Wiles, Blake Silver, Sarah Grace Hart, Lauren Lopez, Clayton Snyder, Whitney Avalon, Ryan. W. Garcia, Tara Perry, Emma Chandler, Curt Mega, Margie Mintz  and Laura Spencer.

Why Should I Watch? From Shipwrecked Comedy and American Black Market, this series brings to life a comedy with the most unlikely of premises: a murder. Borrowing characters from Shipwreck’s endearing Kissing In the Rain series, Poe Party brings back Sinead Persaud’s Lenore, Sean Persaud’s Edgar Allan Poe and Mary Kate Wiles’ Annabel Lee. New to the cast but familiar to web series viewers, the series also stars Ashley Clements (who played the iconic Lizzie in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries) in a new role.

This is a story all about laughs and the large group of actors clearly relish their roles playing iconic literary authors who have all been shoved together in the same room. From Poe to Hemingway and Bronte to Shelley, the authors have gathered to participate in a fun murder mystery dinner party. The fun only grows when the murder is real. The characters and their personalities are truly the star of the show with witty banter and enough punchy one liners that you can enjoy the series even if you know nothing about historical authors. It’s a little ridiculous and a perfect pinch of over-dramatizing only add to the humor. If watching this array of big personalities interact isn’t enough, the plot makes a delightful use of murder mystery tropes and actually does keep you guessing until the end.

Basically, if you want to spend your time smiling while watching people die this is the one for you. That’s not to say that the show can’t hit its emotional beats. While primarily played for laughs, the relationship between Poe and Annabel Lee, Lenore’s past and her interactions with HG Wells (Blake Silver) leave plenty of room for a small dose of feels before the laughs hit again.

Plus, just all the puns. Writers like puns.

Where Can I Watch? The series recently wrapped with 11 episodes and an epilogue so it’s a perfect time to binge! You can watch Poe Party here.
