Younger – Gettin’ Hygge with It

On their walk to work, Liza (Sutton Foster) confesses to Maggie (Debi Mazar) that she thinks Josh (Nico Tortorella) and Kelsey (Hilary Duff) are sleeping together. Maggie blows off her suspicions, saying that would be out of character for both of them. Maggie makes Liza learn a new route to get to the train so she doesn’t have to pass Josh’s apartment.

Josh greets Kelsey after an early morning bike ride—they are both having trouble sleeping as their heads reeling from Liza’s lie. Kelsey says they’re in Liza recovery together, but Josh says he doesn’t even want to hear her name. The two bond and make breakfast together.

Lauren (Molly Bernard) ambushes Kelsey outside of Josh’s apartment. Kelsey assures her she didn’t hook up with Josh, but Lauren continues pressuring her for clarity. She forcefully invites her to the House of Yes with her and Max (Ben Rappaport) that night, telling her to bring Josh along with her.

Montana (Meredith Hagner), Maggie’s barista, chats her up. She flirtatiously draws a heart in her latte and gushes over her last art installation before giving her a punchcard for a free drink.

Diana (Miriam Shor) shares the reviews for Kelsey’s ex-boyfriend’s book with Liza—they’re terrible and call the novel “flabby” and “self-indulgent.” She then sends Liza to get Charles’ (Peter Hermann) signature on a piece of cover art.

Liza walks in to find Charles lying on the floor. His back has spasmed and Liza awkwardly helps massage it to release some of the pain. She tells him he’s going to need ice and Ibuprofen. He is confused as to why she knows so much about this. Liza lies, saying her friend’s husband—who is in his 40s—gets back pain a lot. Charles is surprised her friends are married to older people, but luckily the weird moment is interrupted by Charles’ phone ringing and Liza gets him some pain meds while he takes the call.

Liza delivers a bouquet of roses to Kelsey, who assumes Liza sent them. It turns out Colin (Jay Wilkison) sent them along with a card apologizing and asking her to dinner.

Diana presents their book Gettin Hygge with It, a guidebook about the Danish art of comfort, to the Empirical staff. Instead of ending the book tour at a Danish restaurant, Diana is going to hold the event at her house and expects everyone to bring a plus one. Millennial is going to help market the book online and some of the interns are working on memes to advertise.

Maggie goes back to Montana’s coffee shop, asking her about the design on the back of her shirt. Montana reveals that she painted it, as she’s also an artist. Maggie compliments it and gives her Maggie phone number, inviting her over to come look at some of her new work. Montana eagerly agrees.

Montana compliments Maggie’s new work, offering to be her assistant. Maggie leans in to kiss her, but Montana says that she’s straight and apologizes for giving Maggie the wrong impression. Maggie shrugs it off, telling her she has a big show opening in a month and could use the help if she’s still interested. Montana happily accepts.

Diana and Liza go shopping for supplies to make Diana’s home more comfortable for the hygge party. Liza is confused by one of the giant pillows and Diana informs her it’s a body pillow for girls who can’t get a man to cuddle with. This makes Liza miss Josh.

Kelsey meets Colin outside the House of Yes club where he apologizes for letting the fame go to his head and not paying attention to her. Kelsey says his apology is a good start, but he’s going to have to do better than that to win her back. The two meet up with Lauren and Max and Max gets Colin mixed up with her other previous boyfriends. Lauren accuses her of being a “dopplebanger” and having a very specific type—blonde, intellectual, tall, etc.

One of the club’s employees asks if anyone at their table has been naughty and selects Kelsey and Colin to go with her to another room. She spanks Colin with a whip while Kelsey watches before handing it over to Kelsey to further bring the pain.

Liza runs into Josh while carrying a body pillow home. Liza asks Josh how he’s doing, but Josh refuses to talk to her, blowing her off and walking away.

Liza helps Richard (Mather Zickel) and a stressed Diana prepare for the hygge party. When Diana leaves the kitchen to serve the appetizers, Richard tells Liza that she is one of the only people Diana truly trusts. When Kelsey and Colin arrive at the party, Colin immediately seeks out Charles to pitch him the idea for his second book as Random House dropped the option for his next novel. Kelsey is stunned and Liza is clearly disgusted by Colin’s opportunist behavior.

Liza pulls Kelsey into Diana’s closet for privacy. She says that she doesn’t trust Colin and thinks he might be using her again. She cares about her and wants to see her with a good guy. Kelsey tells her to stop acting like she knows how she thinks and what she wants. The fight escalates when Liza asks Kelsey why she’s living with Josh and Kelsey says she’s the only one who knows what he’s going through. Diana hears all of this through the door and misinterprets, telling Charles that apparently Kelsey stole Liza’s boyfriend.

After the party, Colin tells Kelsey he’s sure she and Liza will make up, but Kelsey doesn’t think so. He starts texting his agent right away, under the impression that Charles is interested in his new book. Hurt, Kelsey rolls her eyes and gets in a cab, but Colin is too self-absorbed to notice.

Back at his apartment, Josh is throwing a party with his bluegrass band. Kelsey isn’t interested in joining, but Josh goes into her room to talk to her, finally making her laugh and cheering her up by pointing out that the name “Liza” has the word “lies” in it. He drags her back out to the party to dance. On her walk home, Liza hears the music coming from Josh’s apartment and sees silhouettes dancing through the window.
