Interviews
Vinyl Theatre – Electrogram
Q) You are releasing your CD entitled Electrogram. What’s the feel and vibe of it and how does the title play a part in the connection?
A) With this first album, we wanted to show people who we are and the style of music we love to play and write, which is high-energy, fun, dance-able music and we feel like Electrogram captures that perfectly. Electrogram as a name comes from the connection between the body and music and how the two tie so perfectly together. We also want people to know that this music is organic and something that’s coming from inside ourselves.
Q) How much of a hand did you have in the production of the album?
A) In terms of the synth production, we hand-pick all of our synths long before going into the studio; however, the mixing and mastering we leave up to our main man Joel Wanasek at JTW Studios in Hubertus, Wisconsin. We’ve been going to him for years and have a great connection and friendship with him.
Q) Why did you decide to release “Breaking Up My Bones” as the first single?
A) We feel like both the vibe and the message of “Breaking Up My Bones” does the best job of showing people who we are. We wanted our first single to show the world not only who we are as a band, but who we are as individuals and we feel like this track does just that.
Q) Can you talk about how the video for “Breaking Up My Bones” pairs with the song with all of the amazing color streams and funky images?
A) We wanted the video to reflect the high-energy, fast-paced nature of the track. So, we definitely stressed lots of color and almost jarringly fast animations. A lot of people think that the backgrounds you see in the performance shots were put in after-the-fact, but they were actually projected behind us as we were playing! The colors are meant to correspond with our album art work and the idea of the music and body and the cords bringing them together.
Q) Besides “Breaking Up My Bones,” what are some of your favorite or other standout songs from the album?
A) We feel like “Gold” is definitely another standout track from the album, mostly because it’s very close to our hearts. We wrote it years ago and we’re so happy that we were able to take it with us to our debut album. It really means a lot to us. “Rhythm of Night” is one of our favorites to play live.
Q) You’re touring with Twenty-One Pilots, what have you learned from your experiences alongside them?
A) Feeling exhausted after a thirty minute set and then seeing Twenty-One Pilots do ninety minutes that are jam packed with energy keeps us intensely motivated on a daily basis. Not only are they incredible performers, they’re stand-up guys. Josh, Tyler and their entire crew have treated us with the utmost respect from day one and have really made us feel at home on this tour.
Q) What can fans expect to see from a Vinyl Theatre live performance?
A) Energy, energy, energy! You better come ready to dance! When we play these songs, we can’t help but dance around and we hope the crowd feels that same energy.
Q) What can fans do to help promote your music?
A) Sharing our music on any social media platform, whether it’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram,or Soundcloud is more than enough to ask of our fans. If people really want to go the extra mile, they can always join the Fueled By Ramen street team!
Q) You are a part of social networking sites. Why is that an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Our social media is absolutely critical to our mission as a band. From the very beginning, we promised ourselves and each other to never forget that we make and spread this music for other people, not for ourselves. Music has been such an integral part of our lives that we want to be that for others and social media is the best way to connect personally with each of our fans and let them know how much they mean to us.
Q) Is there anything you’d like to say to fans and supporters or share further about your music?
A) Thank you so much for all of your support! Everything we do is for you guys.
