Upload – Wedding Weekend

Nathan #1 (Robbie Amell) and Nora (Andy Allo) are getting married in a very obvious AI courthouse. These suspicions are quickly confirmed when Nora begins to cry and the scene morphs into the real world. She is wearing her VR goggles over her sunken in and puffy eyes. This gives the implication that the Nathan she was in a relationship with was the one who was killed.

Aleesha (Zainab Johnson) and Ingrid (Allegra Edwards) attempt to check in on Nora as a montage of her depression plays out. The two do their best to help clean her room of messy clothes and tissues as she refuses to leave an AI version Nathan in the VR simulation. Eventually Nora rises from her room and in true Ingrid fashion, she asks if Nora will be attending her bachelorette party and eventual wedding to Nathan # 2. In a beautiful way that reminds us of the strong friendship between Nora and Aleesha, we hear Aleesha remarks, “We miss your smile.” This eventually gets a smirk out of Nora to which Aleesha says, “There it is. Look at you lighting up the room.” Once she closes herself back off in her room, Aleesha and Ingrid listen in and realize she is still dependent on the VR goggles and AI Nathan.

Back in Lake View, the concierge (Owen Daniels) spouts off possible vows for Nathan #2 to use as he and Luke (Kevin Bigley) judge each one. It is soon revealed that Ingrid is Luke’s new angel and she is now working with the company to spend more time with Nathan # 2. When he is fed up with Ingrid’s incompetence to be an angel, he requests a meeting with Aleesha. We learn Aleesha is now a manager higher up and is in charge of over two thousand floors. Feeling defeated Luke expresses his feeling about being ignored by Aleesha after their kiss. After teasing Luke a bit about it, Ingrid soon goes to tease Aleesha about the kiss. She simply says she’s too busy to deal with her jokes now as she has a meeting on floor 7. Once on the elevator, she notably goes to the Lobby instead. She soon struts through the Oscar Mayer Intel offices to meet with Babatunde (Dayo Ade). She passes off a ring with files on the sketchy doings happening at Horizen. When Aleesha tries to leave, Babatunde is quick to remind her that by getting their previous agent Karina (Jeanine Mason) fired, they now own her and need her help on the inside. She is put in a training session to learn combat techniques. She is thrust into the world of being an official agent.

Nora still lives deeply in the VR world. She and Nathan #1 discuss their honeymoon plans and the AI version of Nathan says something that makes it clear to Nora, her Nathan is really gone. After some time, she takes off the goggles and appears to see some type of hologram of Nathan. Though she is convinced it was really him, the viewer is still left to question if this is just another layer of her grief. After a clear passage of time, the ghost of Nathan returns and Nora is giddy to see him. They both are clearly so moved and happy to each other.

Nathan #2 and Ingrid both prepare for their bachelor and bachelorette parties. Luke busts in to take Nathan # 2 out on their planned night. Ingrid’s bachelorette party consists of her boss, Lucy (Andrea Rosen), two random co-workers and Aleesha (who arrives late) at a karaoke bar. Once Aleesha eventually gets there, the atmosphere visibly picks up the dull night. In the world of Lake View, Nathan #2’s bachelor party consists of Luke and various side characters living in Lake View that viewers have seen through the seasons. Nora opted to stay home to spend time with Nathan. In her confusion, she calls her father Dave (Chris Williams) for advice. He mentioned seeing Nora’s mother often after she passed and her father gives her spiritual guidance.

The next morning, Nora finds her maid of honor VR suit and surprises Ingrid by putting it on. Up until now, it wasn’t clear if Nora felt ready to spring back into her life. After her encounters with Nathan, she feels more comfortable doing so. She wakes a sleeping Ingrid from the bathroom floor who is tearfully happy to have another friend be there for her. Ingrid’s bridal party consists of Nathan’s mom, Viv (Jessica Tuck), his niece, Nevaeh (Chloe Coleman), and Nora. At some point, Nora opens up to the group about seeing Nathan as a ghost. They all seem concerned for her but make light of the moment to ease tension. To them, it seems Nora is just on a new, wild, spiritual kick.

The wedding kicks off with Luke as the officiant in a pastor’s clergy attire and referring to himself as the MC of the night. Nora stands by Ingrid’s side as her maid of honor. For her vows, Nora reads from her favorite book, The Independent Bubble. It tells the story of a little girl who loves a bubble so much and follows it to the end of the earth to keep it safe. While focusing so much on keeping the bubble safe, the little girl ends up in danger only to be saved by her bubble. Nathan’s vows are more straightforward about being all in for this relationship. Before he can pronounce them man and wife, Luke has to read out a Taco Bell ad since they are in Horizen’s property.

Ingrid and Nathan make their grand entrance to their ceremony in Lake View’s hotel lobby. She attempts to throw the bouquet to Nora; however it is intercepted by the AI concierge. In a bittersweet moment, Nora watches the newlywed couple during their first dance. When a malfunction occurs, we are shown the reality of the moment, Nora and Ingrid in their VR suits standing in the bathtub. After helping with the glitch, Nora hears Nathan #1 calling for her from the living room. The episode ends with Nora realizing that Nathan is not a ghost, he is a projection and very much alive.
