A Story Told – Keep Watch
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I would describe our sound as alternative pop.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Blink-182, Third Eye Blind and Taylor Swift
Q) How did the band get their name?
A) Coming up with a band name is so tough these days since there are a million bands in the world. The name A Story Told was surprisingly available when we started the band in 2013 and we felt that it embraced what we were trying to represent, so we went with it and never looked back!
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Weather.”
A) “Weather” was written about the aftermath of a relationship that ended. It focuses on the struggles a person experiences with the “what if’s.” Ultimately, it’s sometimes better just to move on and appreciate the past for what it was.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I think the simplicity and honesty of “Weather” really allows listeners to connect with the track. The theme of the song is something that everyone goes through so it’s very easy for people to relate.
Q) How does the video play into the message of the song?
A) The music video follows this idea of having to move on from a failed relationship. Sometimes you just aren’t in the same place in life as another person and we wanted to show this concept visually.
Q) How did you come to partner with Paste Magazine for the song’s release?
A) We have awesome people over at The Catalyst Publicity Group (Hi, Jen!) that make sure our music reaches as many ears as possible. They brought us the idea of partnering with Paste and worked really hard to make it happen. We were thrilled when we got word that they wanted to premiere the track.
Q) Which track off your Keep Watch means the most to you and why?
A) I would say the title track off Keep Watch means the most to me. It’s a very emotionally driven song and encompasses everything I want to hear in a song both lyrically and musically.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) We usually start with a simple guitar riff or a chord progression and keep building off of that until a rough structure of a song is formed. We then add melodies and lyrics and then make refinements to get to the final product.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) We have 100% control over the songwriting and production of our music. It really allows us to create honest music that we thoroughly enjoy.
Q) What can fans expect from a live A Story Told performance?
A) We strive for a very energetic and authentic live performance. We want the audience to have as good as a time as we are.
Q) What songs off Keep Watch do you most enjoy performing live?
A) “Check Please” and “All of You” off of Keep Watch are probably the songs I enjoy performing live the most. Both are so high energy and easy to sing along with so the crowd usually gets pretty into those two.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Collaborating with Mark Hoppus from Blink-182 would be a dream come true.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) We like to be as accessible as possible to our fans since they are ultimately the ones driving this band. Unfortunately, we can’t be two places at once so having a strong social media presence allows us to connect with fans all over the world at any time. Interacting and showing appreciation to those that support us is very important to us.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Your support truly means the world to us and we are forever grateful for your love and attention. Thanks for listening!
