Evie Sage has gotten another promotion! She’s made her way up in the ranks from assistant to apprentice and now accomplice! Of course, she loves the attention and appreciation from boss/crush Trystan “The Villain” Maverine, so any chance to learn more about the business has her intrigued. But living with The Villain has some issues as all of Evie’s family now resides in the castle (or under it in the dungeon), which makes things a little more difficult. Plus, someone has been breaking into the castle trying to take out “The Wicked Woman” and bring down The Villain. And there is the small matter that with the kingdom’s powers on the fritz; so is Kingsley, who may or may not be losing his battle to his curse. Accomplice to the Villain is yet another fun romp for Evie and company as you are desperate to see how our goodhearted bad girl navigates her latest trials and tribulations.
Evie Sage, Lyssa Sage, Gideon Sage and Nurra Sage are finally reunited, but there is still plenty of resentment lingering. However, she won’t let that ruin her happiness as she is giddy over her latest promotion and her ever growing closeness to The Villain. Unfortunately, someone keeps breaking into the castle and causing a commotion. Could there be a spy in their midst? Oh, and did I mention that Fluffy is depressed, Becky is in love with Blade, Gideon has a crush on Keeley and Kinglsey seems to be glitching…With the magic in the kingdom malfunctioning, could our beloved Prince turned frog be in trouble? Thus, Evie, Trystan, Clare and Tatianna set out on a mission to try and find a solution while Gideon and Kelley seek the female guvre to reunite her with her love.
Certainly, nothing goes according to Evie or Trystan’s plans and that’s what makes this such a fun read. Evie has such a spirit to her and a brazenness that you deeply wish she could make it work with Trystan while simultaneously thinking, “I could totally be best friends with this woman.” There is the will-they-won’t-they that lingers as well and now not just with Trystan and Evie but with Becky and Blade. And we all desperately want to break the curse on Kingsley as ten years of punishment is far too long for a spell with bad intentions.
As someone who responded, “YES,” when handed a copy of this book, I went into it eager to see what more was in store for our heroine and hero (don’t tell them I said that – they’re evil and they won’t hear anything else about it). Accomplice to the Villain is yet another enjoyable read in the series. Author Hannah Nicole Maehrer lovingly crafts a worthy read that is truly enchanting (pun intended).
