AIRPORTS – U FEEL IT 2
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) Clean pop, lots of hooks, tight production.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I am most in love with pop artists that have their own distinguishable sound and really good at emotions and hooks – Jon Bellion, Kanye, The 1975, Charlie Puth and LANY.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “U FEEL IT 2.”
A) I’d like to consider “U FEEL IT 2” a bit unique in its meaning, as it’s a duality. I wrote the lyrics to be interpreted as a romantic love song OR a song about a relationship with a vice, something that darkens your world.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) Some people have said it’s their current love song to a significant other, some have said it hit them in their feelings about something they struggle with, some like the nostalgic and feel good vibe. So, I’d say the versatility is what is working here.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) For the music video I got people during isolation to open up about things that make their life wonderful and make their life a battle. It came together really beautifully, so emotional and confronting at times. I really hope it helps other people know they’re not alone in whatever they battle with.
Q) What makes this song stand out to you personally?
A) It’s really special to me because of the way it came together. I made it with my mate Matt (Future Strangers) and the way the lyrics came together in that session really hit me emotionally.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) Sometimes words or a line will come to me and I write it from there before music. Sometimes they come when I hear the right chords. This time it was from the right chords.
Q) The synths on this song are incredible! How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I’m the main producer, writer and engineer of most of my songs. This time; however, Matt did a bunch of the synths and I played more with them later. We used a few vintage synths in the studio we were in (DX7 and a Juno). I did most of the guitars and drums on this one.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) Yes to one of them. [winks]
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I honestly love playing in New Zealand so much. I’ve been lucky enough to do a few festivals and events there. I just love kiwis. They are such great, music loving crowds.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Jon Bellion, Blackbear and Kanye.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) There’s an American artist named R I L E Y. He just dropped his new album and it’s tight. Really well put together, late night LA mood. On repeat.
Q) Why is mental health such an important cause for you?
A) I think because I’ve been on such a wild journey of self-realization and also dealing with it in my family and people close to me. I’ve put a lot of years into self-development, exploring psychology and counselling. I believe self-awareness breeds empathy which will make the world better. I’m about to put out a Podcast that covers more of this side of my journey.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I think it goes without question that social media is the most accessible way to connect with a fanbase today.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) I appreciate it a hell of a lot, but more importantly I hope you appreciate yourself.🌹
