Al Bandiero – Desire
Q. What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?
A. Pitching two different projects, one to act in and one to host, while still hosting the NYC radio show on 103 5 KTU Sundays 6-9pm.
Q. What can you tell us about the premise for “Desire” and about your character?
A. Two brothers are in love with the same woman. The brothers do not know I am their father; I have not seen them since they were little boys. Now adults, one of them gets into trouble and the family has to leave NJ. Their mother calls and asks for me to help them in Los Angeles. Trouble follows them.
Q. What made you want to be a part of the show?
A. Desireis the first American show that is seen 6 nights a week in prime time where 65 episodes will air. That and the fact that I am in all the episodes made it attractive to be one of the first actors in this new format in America. This format has been seen all over the world and now it’s here.Desire will also be seen in England, Canada, Australia, France and Hong Kong.
Q. Has anything about the role been challenging for you?
A. Yes. The role of Peter was challenging because he has to play emotionally for abandoning his family and at the same time be strong and protect them.
Q. Do you have a really memorable moment from your time filming?
A. I would say there wasn’t one particular moment. It was the entire experience; from the very long hours of shooting to working with so many different actors on the same project.
Q. Why should viewers take the time to check out the show?
A. Everyone has a favorite TV show, and you have to wait a week to see the next episode. With Desire, you can watch 6 nights a week with a recap at the beginning of every episode and a cliffhanger at the end of every episode. This way you can follow your favorite character or story line every night.
Q. You’ve done radio work, hosting, and acting. Is there anything else you’d like to try your hand at?
A. Yes. To play for the NY Yankees. (I can dream can’t I?!)
Q. What made you want to get into acting?
A. I met a woman who was an acting teacher and she asked me to read a scene with her. I never acted before so I told her no. She persisted and gave me a scene to read over for a few minutes. After doing the scene with her, she looked at me, smiled and said, “Just what I’m looking for. Class starts tomorrow and you’re in it.” It all started from there.
Q. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A. One of the things my wife and I enjoy doing is taking a scenic drive up to wine country and relaxing at a vineyard with good food and good wine. I also enjoy driving performance cars and California has some great roads to drive.
Q. Do you have a latest obsession? Are you into any particular book, sport, music group or activity?
A. I have an obsession with watches. At last count, I have 31, one of which dates back to 1925. It is a pocket watch in mint condition.
