Alex Di Leo – So We Go

Q) How would you describe your sound?

 

A) I’d say my style of music is more of an Alternative/Indie Rock/Pop vibe with a consistent folk style underlying my sound.

 

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

 

A) Some of my musical influences are Coldplay, Arcade Fire, Phoenix (France), Snow Patrol, U2, Vance Joy, One Republic, Johnny Cash, Lumineers

 

Q) What is your song writing process like? Do you need music before the lyrics arrive?

 

A) My typical writing process usually starts with a vocal/instrumental melody popping into my head. From there I’ll think of what could come after or before that part, which solidifies what that part of the song becomes. The best is when awesome lyrics come as soon as the melody does but if they don’t I usually think of them as I go.

 

Q) Your latest EP is called So We Go.Where does the title come from?

 

A) So We Go is also a title of one of the tracks in the EP, but it also came from that fact that this is my first release and I feel that life’s about taking chances. It’s something I try to do more of, taking chances win my life and trying new things. Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you more than the destination.

 

Q) What is the message behind the song “Make It Easier?”

 

A) “Make it Easier” is about a young lovers and their carefree life together. Life today is always on the go and I think it’s important to slow down, enjoy life and not overthink everything.

 

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans have connected to?

 

A) I think the lyric in the pre chorus has definitely stood out to many fans. “Just go, stay young, it’s your life…you fell in love with her.” It definitely sums up the story of the song and talks about taking a chance in life.

 

Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?

 

A) Throughout the recording process of this EP I’ve definitely had a very big hand in the production. Josh Diaz produced the EP. I thought creatively we were able to balance each other out on our ideas. He helped bring the sounds in my head to life. We worked extremely well together.

 

Q) Will there be a video for all the songs off So We Go or just certain ones?

 

A) Yes, there will be music videos for “Waking Up” which was just filmed and also one for “So We Go.” My video for “I’ve Been Waiting” will be out next week. I have a live video of “So We Go,” too. Plus, lyric videos may be popping up soon too. Keep a look out on my social media.

 

Q) What can fans expect from a live Alex Di Leo performance?

 

A) For the most part I’d expect a high energy, positive vibes show. I’ve heard from many fans that when they play my songs for their friends, they’re instantly drawn to the melodies. By the end of my show, I’m hoping for them to leave with at least one song stuck in their head that they’ll be singing when they’re back in bed that night.

 

Q) What songs off So We Go are you most looking forward to performing live?

 

A) The songs I’m most looking forward to perform are “Waking Up” and “I’ve Been Waiting.” They’re both high energy, which makes playing them live a great time for me on stage. I think the positive vibes translate well to my audience. I love to see fans dancing to these songs and singing along.

 

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

 

A) A dream artist to collaborate with would be Chris Martin from Coldplay.

 

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your EP?

 

A) I’d like my listeners to get a positive message and vibe through my music. I’m constantly thinking of how short our lives are and how important it is to experience new things, take risks and to not be afraid of what could go wrong, but what could go right.

 

Q) Is there anything else you want to be sure fans know about your music?

 

A) If you’re liking what you hear so far, stay close! I have a single coming out on the 27th this month (Sept.) “I’ve Been Waiting.” The video will be premiered, Sept. 28 on AXS.com. Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way to connect with your fans?

 

A) I think that social media is a gift to artists. It’s such a great opportunity to connect with new friends and fans from all over the world. It allows for an artist to easily share instant information with their audience. Today, fans like to know what’s going on, up to the exact moment, and I can get instant feedback on new songs, photos and videos. My fans have helped decide what songs to record for my follow up release.
