Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) It’s kinda varied really. I rap, I sing and some tracks I do both. I try to combine genres and styles just try to be different but me.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I started listening to NWA, Slick Rick to boys to men Michael Jackson, Teddy Riley to Dogg Pound, DMX, 2Pac, Wiley, Kano, T Pain, Drake, 6lack, Sza, H.E.R. Jhene Aiko, Jorja Smith, Bryson Tiller, Joyner Lucas and Token. So, my influences are spanning decades. I just love music

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Emoji.” How did you come to work with Black Rose on the track?

A) “Emoji” was originally an album feature with OB the Author, a track I produced at the time, me and Black Rose were working together. So, I asked her to jump on a verse. I liked the vibe and thought it might be a good idea to get Trinieboi Joocie on the track. We had met at MC Bushkin’s studio a year before. He’s really talent artist I wanted to get involved in a project and thought this was a good fit for his vibe.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I dunno. I think it’s relatable, I think a lot of people deal with breakups through social media it’s something I’ve had a Lil experience in. [laughs]

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Usually make the beat or use a beat someone’s sent me or search the net. Then, I’ll just freestyle whatever comes to mind until I get someone catchy. I record that and work from there and build it up from there.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) Pretty much everything from the production to the mix and master. It just had to get done and I guess if I ain’t got people to oversee it you gotta do that or you just won’t get anything done.

Q) You tend to shy away from the typical rap topics of violence, gangs, shootings, etc. Why was that so important to you?

A) I dunno if it was important.

Q) What can fans expect from a live Alex Dutty performance?

A) A lot of energy

Q) Your upcoming debut album is called Knock Down Ginger. Where does the title come from?

A) The title is taken from the kids’ game and a play on words around the years of industry heads not supporting and even going as far as to make things difficult for me.

Q) When can fans look forward to the release of the album?

A) It’s out now and available on all digital outlets like Spotify and Apple Music etc,

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Anywhere there is a vibe

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I dunno really. I’m kinda feeling 6lack, D Block Europe and IAMDDB. But, yeah, maybe that could work. I dunno bout anyone else really.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Dave Physco is a good album. He’s a real artist, does real shit and not all this fuck boy shit some of his peers be on.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s cool. I think it’s starting to become a lil year Vee saturated at times and waters down an artists’ brand. I find the ones who do the least on social media have the most musical integrity. They may not always get the most attention, but in the long run that’s who people will remember and respect not just remember. I mean, think of how everyone was going mad over Tekshi69. Now look at how he will be remembered. This is my point.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thanks for your continued support you are the only reason I do this. When that stops, so will I. Follow me on Spotify for the latest by looking for Alex Dutty.
