Alexa Ferr – If You Only Knew
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A)I would describe my sound as Rugged R&B/Pop. I love to incorporate different sounds from different genres in my music and make it my own!
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I grew up listening to a lot of music by Brandy, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Jojo, Rihanna, Amy Winehouse, etc. There are so many artists I looked up to and feel that influenced me as an artist!
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “If You Only Knew.”
A) The story behind “If You Only Knew” is a very personal one. I was in a situation where I felt like the other person was doing me wrong, just being shady and talking to girls behind my back. I found out they were doing these songs, but what that person doesn’t know is I could be doing the same things as he was yet, I stayed loyal no matter what. There’s always temptations when you are in a relationship but when I’m with someone I’m 100% loyal to them and all about them and no one else. I know a lot of people can relate to this!
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) As I previously said, it’s something that people can relate to because I know so many girls and guys that have gone through the same situation. When the song first came out, my friends and fans hit me up saying, “This is exactly what I’ve been going through this literally just made me feel like I’m not crazy and like somebody else is feeling what I’m feeling.” It’s definitely nice to know that my music can connect with other people on that level and make them feel like they can relate to me and what I sing and write about.
Q) How will the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) We didn’t put out a visual out for “If You Only Knew” because of timing and scheduling. But I would love to put one out soon if it works out. I’m not able to, my upcoming project will definitely have more visuals.
Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) My songwriting process is always different, but most of the time I’d like to hear the beat before I write lyrics. Once I hear the beat, I usually picture a music video, a scene or a visual in my head and then I basically just right about that and whatever feeling that beat gives me. But there are times where I’ll just write to a piano a guitar melody and then we build the beat around that. Essentially, I usually like to write with some sort of melody or beat behind the vocals first.
Q) Talk about working with Th3ory on the production of the song.
A) Working with Th3ory on the production of this song was interesting because usually when we work we start from scratch together and the beat doesn’t always sound like how it’s gonna turn out in the beginning. The creation of the beat comes with the whole process of when we find the message behind the song, the lyrics, the melodies and everything. Then, we can add more. It’s always a fun process with him because I’ve known him since I was seventeen years old, so he’s like a big brother, someone who I’m comfortable working with and we always come up with some dope vibes.
Q) What can fans expect from a live Alexa Ferr performance?
A) A lot of dancing and just fun vibes! I love to have fun on stage and make the crowd enjoy themselves!
Q) Will there be an EP or album coming in the near future?
A) Yes! I’ve been experimenting with different sounds and styles this past year and I finally found what I’m looking for. My project is still in the works; however, I am almost done. Ideally, I’d like to release it this Summer
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I love performing at The Whiskey A Gogo, House of Blues and The Study in Hollywood. What stands out for me is the people that are coming to watch the shows. A lot of the times these people at these shows aren’t necessarily coming to see me perform; however, once I get on stage they enjoy my music and they love hearing me sing and perform. They always tell me after the show how much they really connected with my music, which is dope to me
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I would love to collaborate with Cardi B, Brandy, Jojo, Ty Dolla $ign, Miguel, Chris Brown, Rihanna and there’s so many!
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Right now, I’m listening to a bunch of different artists. I love Alina Baraz’s new project and I’m really into Pusha T and Kanye’s new album. But I’m always listening to older R&B and Hip-Hop albums from the 90’s and early 2000s like Beyoncé, etc.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I think the most important way to connect my fans is to stay consistent on social media. I do this by making posts and getting them involved by asking questions and being more personal with them. It makes them feel like they can relate and connect with me more and also see what they like and what they don’t like because at the end of the day is what the people want!
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you guys so much for your support over the years. Things haven’t been moving as quickly as I wanted them to because of certain situations that I’ve been in within the industry, but at the end of the day everything happens for reason. I feel like I am more in tune with myself as a woman and I’m more in tune with myself as an artist. So, therefore, I can give you guys my best work yet. There is more music to come, definitely more visuals and I am going to be performing soon for sure. I can’t wait to meet all of you and release my new music for you guys!
