Interviews
Alexandra Hainsworth – Lose It with Me
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) Very eclectic! I’m a pop singer-songwriter but my sound is influenced by so many other genres including soul, country, jazz, house and EDM. There is something for everybody in my songs.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Amy Winehouse, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston. All three of these artists have an incredible legacy. I’ve always been inspired by artists with a powerful vocal and a unique sound.
Q) Talk about the story behind your song “Lose It with Me.” What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) “Lose It with Me” is about cherishing the people in your life. I think everyone can relate to having fun and spending quality time with those they care about.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) The music video is colorful and vibrant to reflect the beauty of life and making the most of what we have.
Q) What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) Not necessarily. I’m able to write lyrics with and without music. The most important thing is focusing on the art.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I work with my music producers throughout the creative process; however, I also give them that artistic freedom to develop their sound.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) I have a new single in the works. Stay tuned for another pop anthem.
Q) You’re a member of the International Singer-Songwriters Association. What advice would you give to up-and-coming songwriters?
A) Be you. This world is a complicated place, but always have the courage to stay true to your own musical style.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) My favorite places to perform are Perth Ellington Jazz Club and the Perth RAC Arena. I enjoy the intimate setting of Ellington Jazz Club, but I also love the grandeur of the RAC Arena.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Sam Smith – his musical style is very complementary to mine. Like Sam Smith, I write a lot of heart-on-your-sleeve songs.
Q) You’re also an audiobook narrator! How did you initially get involved in
this?
A) I’ve always admired narrators and, being a vocalist, I initially thought why not give it a try? Since narrating some of Victor Paul’s audiobooks such as Chapter Thirteen and The Mountain Stole My Wife, I’ve really enjoyed bringing stories to life and drawing on my voice acting skills.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Social media allows people to connect across so many different countries and cultures. It truly makes my music available to everyone and it’s a wonderful thing that my message can be heard worldwide.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you
and your work?
A) You are all fabulous! Thank you for being a part of my musical journey. I have so much to give, and I hope you’ll enjoy each and every new song to come.
