Alexz Johnson – Hey Jude

Q.  What are the current projects that you are working on?

A.  Yes, I’ve just finished the first two episodes of season 2 of “Instant Star.”  I just got back from Vancouver, I was filming a feature there for three months. 

Q.  What can you tell us about the premise for “Instant Star” and your character Jude?

A.  “Instant Star” is kind of taking off on a young girl who wins kind of an “American Idol” type of contest.  It kind of just picks up from there winning this contest and seeing what happens from there throughout the whole thing, seeing what goes on the industry.  Also, how she deals with being shot into an instant star. 

Q.  What made you want to be a part of this project?

A.  The music, the fact that it was music and I was able to write for the show and be involved in the compilation of my character.

Q.  “Instant Star” is getting ready for season 2 in Canada, but is just beginning here in the United States.  What is it about the show that you think has hooked Canadian viewers?

A.  I just think it’s a great coming of age kind of show, it gives kind of the inside of the music industry and stuff, which is kind of the number one machine working in our world right now, is the music industry.  Especially, since “Canadian Idol” and “American Idol” have irrupted!  But, it’s kind of just about you know a young girl and kind of just growing up.   I think a lot of people can relate to being young and put into peer pressure situations no matter what they are doing.  I think that the story comes from that place!

Q.  Do you have a most memorable moment from season 1 of “Instant Star”?

A.  Probably yeah, doing my first performance on stage in front of a bunch of, they had all of these extras come in and they were probably like “What are we doing?  We have to stand here, be dancing and act like we’re liking the music?”  They were listening to my song and they got so into it.  They were coming up to me and saying “What CD is this, it’s so good!” 

Q.  Is there a summer movie that you’re really interested in checking out?

A.  Probably War of the Worlds, I like those big ones, those crazy special effects in the movies.

Q.  Do you have a latest obsession?  Are you into any particular book, sport, music group or activity?

A.  My new obsession is a CD by an artist named Regina Spector.  She’s just amazing, I love the music.

Q.  What is in your CD player at the moment?

A.  Right now, actually I have to go over here and check my CD player.  It’s Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians. 

Q.  What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

A.  I check out shows and concerts wherever I am, kind of underground concerts or folk eclectic shows.  I really like checking out new artists and supporting other artists and yeah I just love going for walks and being outside and stuff like that.

Q.  What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A.  Thank you for supporting and loving what we do on the show, which is trying to make good music and trying to make it through the music industry and get ready for season 2 because now we really got the ball rolling!
