American Idol – Season 3, Night Four

Last week we were treated to night four of auditions on season 3 of ABC’s revived “American Idol.” Once again hopefuls are looking for that golden ticket to Hollywood and to become one step closer to becoming the new American Idol! Let’s break down the auditions from last week down below and be sure to check out the end of this recap for information regarding this week’s episode.

 

Before we begin the auditions we get an official announcement from the judges that Katy Perry is pregnant! So, congrats are in order for Katy and fiance, Orlando Bloom!

 

Danny La Rota- Age 24; Birmingham, AL; This dental student is auditioning with an original interpretation of Lorde’s “Royals.” His vocals are nice and his runs smooth. He reminds me of a really great indie artist. All of the judges really enjoy him. He’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Lou Dawg- Age 23; Oahu, HI; Awkward! This surfer from Hawaii doesn’t even know the judges! He thinks Luke is Justin Timberlake and Katy sings Sia’s “Chandelier,” but the biggest mistake of all is that he thinks Lionel is Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajack? Despite the awkward intro, he sings an original and its not bad but the judges don’t think that he’s as serious about being an artist as some of the others. He’s not moving on but watch his audition down below for the comedy of it. 

 

Makayla Phillips- Age 17; Temecula, CA; Growing up Makayla was a big fan of the show and actually auditioned back in 2017 but was two weeks too young to get past the producer stage. Singing “Who’s Loving You,” the judges loved her! She’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Devon Alexander- Age 22; Sonora, CA;  Auditioning with Sam Smith’s “Not In That Way”and the judges think he’s great. He’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Mosean Wilson- Age 23; Springfield, IL; This 23-year-old had a tough life and a hard past few years after finding his father died due to an overdose. Auditioning with an original son “Slipped Away,” this jazzy blues singer is pretty good! Lets see how far he goes because he’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Faith Becnel- Age 20; Louisiana; A colorful singer is this one! We hear her second song “Lady Marmalade” and Katy and Luke take a chance on her because she has a sort of “It” factor that can’t be explained. So, she’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Kat and Space Cowboy- This couple is here together and is adorable and definitely in love. They can’t stop holding hands! Kat is 19-years-old and Space Cowboy (a/k/a Alejandro Garrido/Alex Cortes) is 26-years-old. They get a rare chance to sing together for their audition. They perform “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. They both are GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Tavia Smith- Age 29; Compton, CA; This singer brought along her “girltarist” and new friend Terry and they are stars! Tavia is a great singer, but the judges really want this dynamic duo to form a band and go on tour together. So, unfortunately, they don’t go through. However, we get a little update and they do end up going on tour together.

 

 

Sophia Wackerman- Age 20; Longbeach, CA; This singer comes from a musical family. She performs “Water” by Bishop Briggs. Her voice is deep and gorgeous! She is truly a star! Hopefully she takes Katy’s advice and starts to go by the name “Sophia Star.” All the judges agree and so she’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Jimmy Levy- Age 21; Miami, FL; This is a family of Psychics, Clairvoyants and Mediums. Jimmy happens to be a medium, but its his mom that gets to show off some skills for the judges before her son sings “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaaks. His voice is good, but he has some nervous habits that he needs to break. So, Katy makes him sing acapella where he tries out “Nobody Love” by Tori Kelly. The judges send him through and he’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Olivia Ximines- Age 16; Menifee, CA; Olivia is a 16-year-old dancer who brought her dance squad to help cheer her on. After a cute dance with them, she sings “Language” by Tori Kelly. She’s so talented!! Katy compares her to a young Brandy. Her voice is strong and you can tell her age but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The judges like her vibe and they vote her through. She’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Marna Michelle- Age 27; Costa Mesa, CA;  This inspiring singer suffers from a muscle and joint disability called arthrogryposis. She has overcome a lot and wants to be an example for other people experiencing disabilities. She decides to sing Lady Gaga’s “Million Reasons” and she is incredible! The judges want her to focus a bit more on the storytelling and emotion in her voice, but otherwise they love her. She is GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

 

Zack Dobbins-  Age 18; Clay, WV ; Zack is a humble country teen from a small town. He’s only auditioning because he made a promise to a girl and he’s a “Man of his word.” He gigs but will only charge once he feels like he made it. He didn’t know what winning “American Idol” entails and thought he’d just get a plaque. He says if he ever becomes famous he wants to live in a trailer on a few acres and live a normal life. He sings an original for the judges called “Misuse.” His voice is gritty and rough in all the right ways. He has a country rock/ bluegrass sound that you don’t hear much these days. He doesn’t know anything about singing “other than [he] likes to do it” and he could perhaps go far cause he’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!

 

Ren Patrick– Age 26; Cypress, TX; Ren actually has a past with Katy seeing as how she made a remark under her breath about Ren leaving her abusive ex at a LA party. She’s been through a lot but is finally safe and no longer in her abusive relationship. She auditions with Robyn’s “Dancing on my Own” and her voice is phenomenal! She’s so gifted and her voice is powerful and full of raw emotion. The judges all love her and are happy to see her safe. Lets see how far she goes because she’s GOING TO HOLLYWOOD!
