Interviews
Anaté – Fume
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Just a Matter of Time.”
A) We wanted to make a groovy song that instantly gets people in a good mood, a dance-y, singalong tune with funky vibes.
Q) This is the third single off your EP Fume. What do you hope listeners take away from the song?
A) This song is truly just meant to make people feel good and this is what we hope it will achieve. An invitation to take things less seriously.
Q) What are some themes that you explore on Fume?
A) Even if this EP in general has more of a feel-good approach rather than a contemplative touch, some songs do explore topics such as ego, the aftermath of a relationship, growing out of toxic situations.
Q) What song(s) on the EP hold a special significance for you and what makes them so dear for you?
A) I personally enjoy the last song of the EP the most (“Ego Game”). Apart from the alternative touch of the production which I love, I also put a lot of thought into the lyrics which explore a fascinating topic such as our ego and the game of seduction.
Q) Which of the tracks challenged you the most creatively?
A) It has to be again “Ego Game.” It is different from the others. I also had to record a spoken part, which was new for me, and I also contributed more to the direction of the production.
Q) Will there be a tour coming to coincide with the release of Fume or are you more focused on releasing new music for the time being?
A) For the time being we are focused more on the creative part.
Q) Are you looking forward to performing any specific songs off Fume for a live audience?
A) Even though this is not in our plan, I would love to perform an acoustic version of “Goliath” on the piano.
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I enjoy performing in intimate settings – small bars, acoustic sessions, somewhere where it’s about connecting with the audience rather than putting on a show.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) We don’t have any collaboration plans yet, but it would be cool to have a soft song that has a rap part at one point for example.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Got back to Arctic Monkeys since a few weeks, especially the AM. The lyrics are just genius, and the melody construction is on another level.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Since we are more focused on song writing rather than performing, staying in touch with fans on social media gives us strength and enthusiasm to carry on. Our followers’ feedback and engagement go to our hearts, and we are happy to see our work has a positive impact, as little as this may be.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) We can’t express how grateful we are that you have decided to embark on this artistic journey with us. In a world where the public is often fed brands rather than music, choosing to pay attention to small independent artists truly shows a genuine love for music and we are humbled and grateful to have you as our fans.
