Angela Kinsey – Office Politics
Q. What are the current projects that you are working on?
A. I will be in the supporting cast for the season 2 of the show “The Office,” I was in season one as well. I go back to work for that I think in early August, is when the production starts again.
Q. Can you tell us a bit about your recurring role on the show “The Office”?
A. My character’s name is actually also coincidentally Angela, she is very stuffy, no frills, no fun, lady in accounting. She’s the person in the office who takes herself very seriously. My character has several roles in the office, not only do I work in accounting but, I am the safety officer for the office. I’m in charge of the first-aid kit, I take that very seriously, so yeah she’s so much fun to play because she’s wired so tight and such a control freak. I think that everyone can relate to that person in the office.
Q. What made you want to be a part of this show?
A. Oh my gosh, I was a huge fan of the BBC version, and when I was told I was able to audition for the U.S. version I was just really excited. I was such a fan of the show, and I was just excited to just be a part of it. The thing that’s great is that everyone can relate, whether you work in a 9 to 5 office or if you sort of have an alternative work or lifestyle. There are all of these hierarchies in an office, in any kind of work place, and I just thought that was such a fun idea for a show, we spend more time at work then we do with our own families. My sister is a nurse, so of course her work environment is so different than what you would think is like a corporate office but, yet she tells these stories, it’s universal you know. “The Office” has like the boss is a jerk or someone like me who is uptight and not that friendly, so I love it.
Q. Why should viewers be tuning into the show “The Office”?
A. Viewers should tune in to “The Office” because they can relate to the characters. It’s very easily relatable and I think it’s also a chance to sort of laugh at what you do every day. I think when we can laugh about something, it’s easier to deal with it. So, maybe if you laugh at Steve Carell being a jerk, when you go to work the next day, when your boss is a jerk, maybe you’ll be able to have a chuckle to yourself instead of getting mad.
Q. You’ve also done work on the show “King of the Hill.” Do you prefer working behind or in front of the camera?
A. Well, I really enjoy both, but I guess, I’ve been performing improv at a comedy club out in Hollywood called Improv Olympic for the last six years, and I love that audience reaction. When I can make someone laugh it’s the best feeling, and I’ve always been that way. So, I really enjoy doing stuff on stage and in front of an audience.
Q. How did you get involved in acting?
A. I started very young, it’s really sort of a cheesy story. My mom said when my sisters and I were little girls, she asked my sister what she wanted to be, and my sister said she wanted to be a truck driver. I said I wanted to be Carol Burnett, at a really young age, as a little girl I would write skits and cast all of my friends in it. Dress every one up, I was constantly performing my skits for my parents and I just continued that like all through school. My sister is not a truck driver by the way!
Q. Have you studied comedic timing at all?
A. Oh yeah, that’s pretty much been my main focus in my career. I’ve done some standup and I perform at a comedy club regularly, I have a show about three times a month. I perform improv comedy with an improv group and I’ve studied at several schools of comedy, I’ve studied at The Groundlings in Los Angeles. I also studied at Improv Olympic and that’s sort of been my main focus since college and since I’ve been in Los Angeles.
Q. Is there a summer movie that you’d really like to check out?
A. Oh my gosh, Batman Begins, I just saw it, it was amazing. I was so excited to see it, you know what else I want to see, I want to see Wedding Crashers. I think that Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are amazing!
Q. Do you have a latest obsession, are you into any particular sport or activity?
A. I am a little bit of a tennis freak, I love tennis, I play with my friend Lindsay all the time. Whenever summer comes around it’s time for Wimbledon and Wimbledon’s on right now. I do this every big tournament, I watch tennis and I think I’m that good! I’ll be watching Serena Williams and she’ll give up on a shot and I’m like, “oh my gosh you so could have got that shot!” I never run, I barely move, it’s just such a joke that when I watch tennis I think I’m as good as the people on TV. Yeah, I watch tennis and June is such a great month for it!
