Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Everywhere and Nowhere is sweet and organic, honest but lighthearted, and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Q) Are there any artists that have influenced your sound through your musical trajectory?

A) Of course, so many. I’m influenced by the 90s and 2000s country music of where I’m from, showtunes from my childhood dance and theater experiences, and musical comedians.

Q) Your new EP Everywhere and Nowhere is out now with lead track “Unread” produced by Bill Lefler. What has your songwriting process been like for it, did you have the lyrics or the music first?

A) Usually, I come up with the lyrics and melody at the same time and build the rest of the song around that. Sometimes I sit down to write and pull out a few lines of lyrics that I have written down prior, but as soon as I decide that those words will become part of a song, I come up with a melody for them. I had all of these songs written when I started working with Bill, so our sessions were about building out the production, recording really good sounds, and making these songs the best versions of themselves.

Q) The EP is a collection of songs inspired by your adventures and misadventures in love during your first years in LA. What was the creative process like?

A) Years of kind of suffering, honestly. I was not having a good time and songwriting was and is therapeutic to me. I’m happy to say that the most optimistic song on the EP, “Everywhere and Nowhere,” is the most recent one!

Q) All the songs are so different, from “Eulogy for a Ghost” to “Eviction Notice.” What was it like developing the concept for the EP?

A) When you’re an independent artist, “developing” is just the conversations you have with yourself. On this project each song has a concept that stands on its own. I explored these themes without the release format in mind, so the overarching themes of the EP were something that were found after the fact. I think that consistency is somewhat just due to the fact that the songs were written during and about a certain time in my life. In selecting which songs would be released, my producer and I were able to refine it even further.

Q) If you had to choose a song from the EP, which would you say was the most challenging to write?

A) Once I sat down to write, all of the songs flowed pretty easily. I guess “Eviction Notice” technically took me the longest, but that’s just because its origin was a few lines I wrote down offhand several years ago. At that time, I didn’t make an attempt to flesh those lines out into a full song. More recently, as I was at the piano working on other songs that would end up on this EP, I flipped through my notebook and decided to pull those few old lines in and build a song around them.

Q) Everywhere and Nowhere feels like the perfect set of songs for those trying to untangle the confusing nature of our modern love. What do you hope people take away from it?

A) I hope people smile at the sweet parts, chuckle at the silly parts and maybe take some solace in feeling their romantic mishaps reflected in these songs.

Q) You grew up singing, dancing and playing the piano from a young age, so your music is filled with this youthful and playful passion to intimate narratives. Is that your goal when you work on a song?

A) Each song has its own goal, so it’s hard for me to speak about the big picture in that sense. My goal will depend on the subject of the song, and sometimes the goal is to write a song about that subject.

Q) Your YouTube channel currently holds 350,000 subscribers and over 41 million views. You have a very loyal fanbase and community online as well, how do you feel about that response?

A) Incredibly privileged, indescribably lucky. The scale of it is hard to comprehend. When my peanut brain starts to conceptualize what those numbers mean or tries to illustrate it visually, I get overwhelmed. So, I focus on what’s in front of me and the connections I have with the fans I know.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) If we have a good vibe in the studio and I like them as a person, I’m down to collaborate and cowrite with anyone. It feeds my soul in a really unique way. Since I started out doing it all on my own, I’m still settling into what it’s like to cowrite and how to find those perfect collaborators.

Q) Do you have any future plans for a tour or any upcoming concerts?

A) When it can be done safely, I hope so, yes. I’d love to step up my live show with a full band, and uh, maybe actually get paid for playing live. Crazy concept.

Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of you and your music?

A) Thank you. I couldn’t do it without you.
