ANSON – a note for you to find…

Q) What artists would you use to best describe your sound?

A) That’s a hard one! I would say perhaps Mayday Parade meets Paramore meets Saosin? It’s difficult to say because there is always what you as the artist perceives who you are versus what everyone else conveys from your music. I’ve seen there is always a disconnect, but those are some artists who I feel best represent my sound.

Q) Tell us the story behind the newest single “Runaway.”

A) I wrote “Runaway” back in early 2019. It was after a pretty long day of grinding it out at my day job. For me, this song is about the longing for more in my life that I rarely voice on the day to day. The dream of running away from the mundane in search of something better. To follow my dreams and not wither away in the hustle of just staying afloat. I think we all get a little lost in our lives and forget the goals that we started with. This song is an ode to that and a hope to one day break the system. To not be just a cog in the machine.

Q) Is there a music video in the works for “Runaway” and if so, what can you share with us about the concept for the video?

A) It’s on the wish list. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 all music videos for this album were put on hold and I’m unsure if we will ever get to them. If the album continues to do well though, I’m sure we will get one in for “Runaway” and some of the other songs. We had quite an elaborate concept for the videos initially that I would love to pursue if everything could align and come together.

Q) How did you decide upon naming the upcoming album a note for you to find…?

A) a note for you to find… was a name I came up with after the album was completed. During the album process I came up with a list of album names, but by the time the album was done none of them really fit or felt right. The name comes from the concept of this album as a whole being my note to the world. My manifesto and my mark on my time on this planet. I was in a very dark place when I wrote a lot of these songs and, honestly, at times I contemplated this album as my suicide note to the world. While I’m still alive and don’t feel that way anymore, I chose the name to convey the emotions that are on the album.

Q) What are some of the biggest themes explored on the new album?

A) Some of the big overarching themes are contemplating our broken society, love in relationships, infidelity and searching for one’s purpose in life.

Q) With an early 2021 release, can fans expect a listening party in the works?

A) Oh yes, indeed! Currently planning to do something special the night the album comes out via livestream. I’m stoked for it and I think fans will love it.

Q) What do you hope fans will take away from the new album?

A) While this world is a dark place, there is still light. There is still hope. The album is largely very solemn, but I hope the music in a way brings comfort to fans and helps them connect with their own life issues. That’s what I do with the artists I listen to and why I write what I do. I hope they find comfort in the fact that they are not alone feeling what they are feeling.

Q) Back in May you decided to re-release “Hailey” as an acoustic single. Why did you decide to create an acoustic version and have you thought about potentially releasing more acoustic music in the future?

A) The idea was actually pitched to me by my label A&Rs Greg and Nico. When I first signed with We Are Triumphant, we were looking for a nice introduction song to release to get the ball rolling because at the time I hadn’t released anything in a while. We thought an acoustic version of “Hailey” would help bring life to the song again, re-kindle fans who love that song, and capture new fans’ interest. Honestly, in hindsight, it was kind of a no-brainer and wish I did it sooner. I’ll definitely be releasing more acoustic tracks in the future. There’s an acoustic track on the new album as well.

Q) In the past, what has been one of your favorite venues to perform at?

A) One of my favorite venues is the Masquerade in Atlanta. Great venue and staff.

Q) Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?

A) That is such a hard question because there are so many! Phoebe Bridgers, Dashboard Confessional, Suzanne Vega, Taylor Swift and Mayday Parade to name a few.

Q) During this pandemic, how has creating music helped you and in what ways do you hope your music helps other people?

A) Creating music during the pandemic has kept my sanity and helps me stay positive. I’m constantly creating, which makes the pandemic and being a homebody a little more bearable. It also gives me purpose through this hard time. I hope my music helps give comfort to people in the fact they aren’t alone in their struggles. I hope it helps them deal with their issues and find peace in their lives. Stay happy and healthy folks!

Q) If I were to peruse your current playlist, what would I find you listening to?

A) You’d find a lot of boygenius, the new Movements album, a couple of The Used albums I’m trying to get into that I missed out on and the new Nothing But Thieves album.

Q) What would you like to share with your fans and supporters of your music?

A) Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything. The support on the latest single has been UNREAL. Truly I am blessed for all of you and I’m stoked to share with you the rest of the album. Let’s meet someday in real life friends! Stay classy!
