Q) For fans meeting K.M. for the first time this season, how would you describe the character in three words—and why should viewers be excited to see them in “One Piece?”

A) Brutish, Intimidating and Ambitious…

The Drum Island arc is one of my personal favourites of the season, not as an actor but as a fan of the show myself. The action packed fighting sequences and challenges the straw hats face here is unlike any other.

Q) When you first read the script for K.M., was there a specific moment that made you think, “Okay… this character is going to be really fun to play”?

A) Absolutely, the script in its entirety is so fun and when I got to my character it was, “Damn, okay this dude is badass.” The entire wardrobe, hair and make up of course was just a cherry on top. I had a blast.

Q) “One Piece” is known for its intense action and physical performances. What part of preparing for this role pushed you the most, whether physically or mentally?

A) We had a very experienced stunt squad working with us for weeks to months prior to filming. So, besides my consistent gym routine to stay in shape, it was the challenge of making sure the choreography was perfect once we brought the performance to “the floor.” I think the fight with Sanji (Taz Skylar) was probably the most work we had to do, in terms of ensuring all actors on the floor were in sync. It was a lovely challenge though and we had a great time filming it.

Q) The “One Piece” world has such bold and memorable character designs. What was your reaction the first time you saw yourself in K.M.’s full costume, and how did that help shape your performance?

A) Having seen the references and manga I was curious as to how a bald dude would be transformed into K.M. When seeing myself in the wardrobe and with the hair, I was totally blown away. It definitely motivates character and gives you a sense of who the guy is once you’re in his shoes.

Q) The live-action series does a great job balancing comedy, action, and larger-than-life personalities. What did you bring to K.M. that maybe wasn’t in the character breakdown for him?

A) He was explained as a boxer and brute and loyal to Wapol (Rob Colletti). I wanted him to also come across as ambitious of the throne, a sense that should anything happen to Wapol he would be next in line. That and I guess the amount of pleasure he derives from getting into fights, always ready to “dance.”

Q) Was there a particular scene this season that you found especially fun—or even challenging—to film?

A) Again, I’d say the logistics around the Sanji fight. It wasn’t just Sanji and I fighting in the small space. There was Chess (Mark Penwill) and Heavy Chopper (Gavin Gomes), too. So, we needed to not only know our choreography, but also understand distance and hitting our marks to ensure a seamless flow on screen. It worked beautifully.

Q) “One Piece” has a massive global fanbase. What surprised you the most about stepping into such a beloved franchise?

A) Yeah, exactly that, how invested the fans are in the story – the world and the characters of “One Piece.” I was admittedly late to the party, not knowing how massive the franchise actually was, so freshly stepping into the space I was very much mind blown by the fanbase and commitment of those who are loyal to the show.

Q) Did you have a favorite cast member to work with this season or someone who made the set especially fun during filming?

A) Besides my confidante Chess, played by Mark Penwill who was awesome to play alongside, Taz Skylar was great and a natural athlete which made our fighting scenes fun to do and believable on screen and he’s also a chill guy so yeah he was easy to get along with and many jokes were cracked which made the work fun.

Q) Without giving away spoilers, what are you most excited for fans to see from K.M. this season?

A) I’d say the confidence K.M., Chess and Wapol has to return to and take up their rightful place as rulers of Drum Kingdom.

Q) Are there any upcoming projects you’re excited about that audiences should keep an eye out for?

A) I just wrapped on three films which are currently in post, but audiences can follow me @AntonJeftha on all social media platforms. I’ll be sharing more there when I’m able to.

Q) What would you like to say to fans and supporters of you and your work?

A) Work like this exists because of the support we get from the audience. It is truly only possible because of them that we get to bring our work to life. So, yeah, thank you for riding with me and I hope to do more of what I do by being fueled by what you do, the support. So much love and, again, thank you.
