Q) How does Arts Fishing Club tend to describe the music that you make?
A) Indie rock. We want to make you dance. We want to make you feel.
Q) Who are some of your biggest musical influences, both individually and as a band?
A) Bon Iver, Paul Simon, Kings of Leon
Q) “Gary Busey” is certainly an eye-catching title! What inspired the song, and why choose Gary Busey as the namesake?
A) “Lucy, juicy, crazy in the head,” the song “Gary Busey” just fell out during the songwriting process. The song is about how crazy you have to be to pursue a career in art and Gary Busey is one particularly crazy artist.
Q) What was the songwriting process like for “Gary Busey?”
A) We wrote that with producer and former band member Peter Eddins. He started a loop, and we built the song from there stream of consciousness.
Q) Since its release, what has been the reaction to “Gary Busey” from fans and listeners?
A) It seems to a be a love/hate song. The people that like it LOVE it. Fans have made shirts and have made Gary Busey face signs. And then for those that don’t connect, they aren’t into it at all.
Q) Congratulations on the upcoming EP Supernatural Groove! What can you tell us about the overall theme or concept of the new EP?
A) Supernatural Groove is a positive mood EP – life, love, dreams and nostalgia.
Q) How many tracks will be on Supernatural Groove?
A) Five
Q) Will fans be able to find any collaborations or guest artists featured?
A) Not on this EP
Q) Which track on the EP, aside from “Gary Busey,” are you most excited for fans to hear and why?
A) Tough, but prolly got to go with “New York Heat” or the namesake “Supernatural Groove.” We are really proud of both of those songs.
Q) How does this EP differentiate from your previous works, especially your full-length album Rothko Sky?
A) Rothko Sky was pretty indie-folk. Supernatural Groove is a further push into more alternative rock.
Q) You also have a good number of tour dates coming up this summer and fall! What can fans expect from a live Arts Fishing Club performance?
A) A. LOT. OF. ENERGY. AFC shows are a wild ride and a good, good time.
Q) How do you balance the energy of playing live with the more intimate moments of your music?
A) It is not easy. Our catalogue covers the spectrum of emotions and moods. We have some heavier rock songs, party songs and then a lot of introspective tunes.
We specifically craft our sets to take people through this emotional rollercoaster in a way that makes sense.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of your music?
A) Thank you for listening. Tell your friends and come say “hi” at a show!
