Interviews
Ashlee Keating – Road Trippin’
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) I have been very actively working in the studio to record my debut album, which I’m really excited about. And I’m getting ready to shoot my music video for the first single off the album.
Q) How would describe your sound?
A) It definitely is pop, Top 40. It is kind of different than what I have been working on lately and what everyone has heard from me. I really can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I have a lot of musical influences, but the ones who have had long term careers and have been very successful are Beyonce, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake.
Q) Your new song out now is “Road Trippin.’” What kind of fan reaction have you been getting to the song?
A) Everyone has really been loving it. I wrote it a little while ago, but I came up with the concept one day when I thought about wanting to go on a road trip with my girls to get away and have a good time. I wanted to forget about everything and that’s kind of where it came from. I feel like a lot of my fans relate to that topic. Sometimes you just want to get away, go on a road trip and forget about everything. And I think that is why it has been doing so well.
Q) What is the songwriting process like for you? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) It just depends. Sometimes I have a concept or idea that comes to me randomly. I can be in bed sleeping and then I have insomnia because I want to get up and write it. I could be in the studio and we have a track where I just start writing to it. We’ll have melody ideas and come up with lyrics. It just depends on the situation.
Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I really love to have a big influence in the production of my music and my sound because I know what direction I want to go in. I’m a music freak and I love music so when I hear certain tracks or sounds (if we’re creating a track from scratch in the studio) I’m able to say, “I really like that sound. Let’s put that on the track.” So, I do like to be involved with the production side as much as possible.
Q) How does the video for your song “Red Eye” play to the message of the track?
A) To be honest, there was no real message I was conveying with that video. I just wanted to do a stripped down version of the song. I wanted an acoustic video for my fans and I decided I wanted to do it with the gorgeous skyline in Los Angeles on a roof top.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) I definitely would love to collaborate with Justin Bieber and with the rapper Tyga would be dope! I love them both.
Q) Your EP will be coming out in Spring. What can fans expect for this new music?
A) There will be a lot of great music and messages and lyrics that relate to them as well as me. It’s just great music!
Q) What can fans do to help promote your music?
A) Definitely continue to tweet out about my music and with the links. Continue spreading the word as much as possible with your friends and family. The more you use social media to get it out there the better because I think that is the best way. I absolutely love seeing you guys writing to me and sharing the music. So, just continue to keep doing that and spreading the word.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I love using social media to connect with my fans. It’s absolutely amazing to see the support I have gotten throughout the years and continue to get. And I love being able to interact with them. I love seeing the SnapChats that my fans send me of them singing along to my songs and an autographed picture of me. Their tweets, Instagrams, etc. – I just love it so much. I feel like it is a great way to connect with them.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your music?
A) I want to thank all my amazing fans throughout the whole world. Thank you so much. I couldn’t do it without my Team Ashley and Keators. Without your support, I have nothing. Our family continues to grow. I just want to thank you so much. Continue to keep spreading the word and I can’t wait for everyone to hear my new music that I’m coming out with. Stay tuned!
