Ashlie Amber – Fight with You
By: Robert Warren
Q) What was your inspiration for creating the song “Fight with You?”
A) I actually didn’t write “Fight with You.” I was pitched this song from Green Hills Music while I was performing a residency overseas. It was one of those songs that as soon as I heard it, I knew I had to sing it. I instantly connected with the message of the song and I think it’s a topic a lot of people can relate to today. I mean, sure, you can go sip mimosas with somebody else by the ocean where everything is effortless or you can stay with the person you’re with because they are your ride or die and you would rather fight with them than be with anybody else.
Q) In the track you sing about a romantic relationship where you stick to someone who you fight with, why might this be better in some cases than just moving on?
A) We currently live in a world that’s filled with countless options because of social media and dating apps. There are literally thousands of people you’re potentially attracted to right at your fingertips. This is amazing as you have the opportunity to connect with people you most likely never would because of your daily routine, but it also makes us lazy and disloyal. As soon as the going gets tough people are immediately onto the next right swipe instead of genuinely getting to know somebody and learning to love and be loved unconditionally. As long as the relationship doesn’t involve physical or mental abuse, I personally find it more entertaining to be with somebody who pushes your buttons from time to time and you there’s. That’s passion.
Q) What do you hope people take away from this song?
A) I just want people to have a fun and more positive messaging in a song that they can connect to. Music doesn’t always have to about deep pain to have a deeper meaning.
Q) What goes through your mind or what do you feel when you sing this song?
A) Performing this song a cappella is my favorite! I am so in love with the message, the laidback vibe and just the right amount of swag that this song has.
Q) What do you think draws your fans to “Fight with You?”
A) I think the fans really like this song because it has a unique sound because my voice has a sultry smooth tone. It still has that full live instrument country production with this really cool cross over pop feel. It’s really riding that line and or bridging the gap between the two, which allows for a wider audience to relate to it.
Q) What was your experience like working with animator Joe Media for the animated music video?
A) Joe was an absolute pleasure! It just goes to show you that people come into your life for a reason. Joe and I met at the gym. He complimented my hair and asked if I was a model. He does photography and thought I had an awesome look to photograph. I smiled, said thank you and that I’m actually a singer but I really appreciate the compliment. He then followed me on IG. I checked out his page, saw that he did animation (which I was in search of to create the video) and within 24 hours he embarked on the beginning stages of what is now the “Fight With You” Official Lyric Video!
Q) Where do you think the song’s message connects to the music video?
A) I think the video is really cute because I have my own avatar and she has boxing gloves and every time certain words come in she punches them. When I was coming up with the concept of the video, I just thought it was a really playful way to play on the story of the song.
Q) What do you think was the hardest part of creating this song?
A) Honestly, there was nothing hard about this song. It was effortless. As it should be when you truly connect to the right material. That is why I knew right away I was picking the right song that coincided with my sound and the other songs we produced.
Q) Grammy and Emmy winner Jamie Tate helped produce the song. How much of a hand did you personally have with the track?
A) I trust Jamie completely. He knows his studio inside and out and the relationship with the musicians is just incredible which makes for a really great open creative space for everybody and it’s a place where Jamie just dominates. I give some thoughts before we do the tracking and throughout the process if I hear something specific, but Jamie is a boss in the studio and already knows what he wants prior to going in and within the first pass of laying the instruments the song comes to life! It gives me goosebumps every time.
Q) When you create music how do you allow yourself to open up and fully express your thoughts through the lyrics?
A) With the songs that I’ve written which I’ll be releasing throughout all of 2021, you can expect to hear fun quirky and extremely relatable lyrics. I haven’t taken writing classes so there’s no filter and my heart just flows through them perfectly. I have my own unique writing style and think over time my fans will definitely get to know more about me. I’m a very literal and transparent person that always leads with my heart and I really think that is easily found in the songs that I write.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) This question is always so hard for me to answer. There’s Maren Morris, Micky Guyton, Sam Hunt and the list goes one. But the one I would really like, and I think would make for a very unique and badass collab, would be miss Dolly Parton! At first, we may seem very different, but if you look deeper, we are very similar. Both big haired, busty women known for our unique looks who are unapologetically ourselves. She’s also known for her bright clear tone and I’m know for my rich sultry tone. So, how cool would it be if the two of us did a collab!
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and your music?
A) I just want to give a huge shoutout to all my fans. Thank you for your support and thank you for embracing me into this community with open arms. The amount of kind words and love I’ve received in my messages across all social media platforms is overwhelming. I’m just beyond grateful and I can’t wait to share all of the awesome stuff I have coming out thought all of 2021 with my current and new fans.
