AUSTN – Touch
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) I would describe my current sound as up-tempo funky pop, with juicy lyrics!
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Some of my musical influences are Julia Micheals, John Mayer, Sia and Harry Styles.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Touch.”
A) “Touch” is a song all based around the intense feelings of a new relationship. One that might not be the best for you, but you’ve waited and desired it for so long that you would do anything for it.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) I could imagine a lot of young adults can relate to this storyline because we all want love so bad that we might even end up risking ourselves for it. I also love the edgy, sort of mysterious atmosphere that the production creates. It makes it really enjoyable to listen to in the car with the windows down.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) The song writing process for these pop songs always starts with either an idea/concept in mind or the original musical melody that ties the whole song together. In this case I walked in the studio, sat down and my producer played the guitar you hear at the beginning. Instantly we all knew what the vibe of the song would be from then on.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I am still getting to know the ins and outs of production, but I love to stick around the session long enough to be able to make unanimous decisions as far as production. Unless something I have in mind presents itself then the producers help make my idea come to life in the production.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) I am currently working on these pop singles individually, so I am not sure yet how they will all tie up in the end!
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) Typically, I close my eyes when I sing, so as long as there are people in front of me enjoying the music I don’t really care where I am. I grew up doing tons of open mics around town so anytime I get to perform for people I am happy 🙂
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) That’s a big question! I have fantasized about collabing with so many artists, but one that currently sticks out would have to be Gracie Abrams. I love her lyrics and voice.
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Right now, I currently can’t stop listening to M83. Their music transports you into a whole other world or introspection, which I love so much. It simply makes you feel something when you listen. They are very talented.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) I think it’s pretty special that my generation has a whole new way of connecting to fans through social media. Personally, I love going Live on Instagram when I feel like singing to an audience or just deep talking. Being able to share my feelings and have conversations with the people who support my music is very special and validating.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thanks for supporting me. I’m glad you are enjoying what I have made so far. There is so much more to come. Love ya!
