Q) What are some themes we will be exploring this season on “Star Trek: Discovery?”
A) Inclusivity, Diversity, Persistence, Trusting the process
Q) Please tell us how Osnullus was originally described to you.
A) Well, to be honest, they’ve given me a lot of creative freedom to run with this character, however when showrunner Alex Kurtzman and I discussed some Onsullus mannerisms during my camera test. We spoke about the hand movements and incredible intelligence of this character.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the series initially?
A) I wanted to be part of “Star Trek…” because it’s “Star Trek!!” [laughs] It’s such a phenomenal series dedicated to the best of humanity both philosophically and scientifically.
Q) Going into this season were you hoping to share a scene with someone in particular?
A) Everyone in this cast is so incredible and being a part of the bridge crew, I do get to interact with a lot of the people I’d like to do scenes with. I love doing scenes with Doug Jones and Sonequa Martin-Green whenever possible. I would love to get a scene in with her Majesty Grudge, the cat. [smiles]
Q) What have been some of your favorite episodes to film?
A) There are a few coming up this season that were my absolute favorite. The last three episodes of season three particularly and you’ll see why once they are released. [smiles]
Q) How do you shake off a long day of filming?
A) Yoga, a little Martial Arts, a bath and maybe a run outside.
Q) You are a part of social media. Do you enjoy the instant fan feedback you receive to episodes?
A) Yes absolutely, I try to answer everyone but sometimes I get so many messages I cannot respond to them all.
Q) What have you personally taken away from your time working on “Star Trek: Discovery?”
A) I’ve learned so much about how good an atmosphere a show can have. I’ve learned a lot about the production of a network television show. I’ve learned that if you show up, do the work, be nice, reliable and talented people take notice. It’s great.
