Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Bad Bad.”

A) “Bad Bad” is about starting to be in love with someone. Sometimes it makes you unstable and confused like, “I was happy before meeting this guy so why I cannot do without you now?” This person comes into your life and turns it upside down. But at the same time, when you feel you’re loved by him, it makes you strong. It feels like you can take over the world. This song talks about both the strength and weakness a new love brings into your life. Also, 098 is an area code for Okinawa, an island where I was born and raised. 098 gyal is a strong island girl that does not play with anybody or any things that mess with her loved ones.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I think it’s that I show weakness in this song.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Sometimes. And other times I just write poems.

Q) Chaki Zulu produced the song, but how much of say do you have in the production of your music?

A) I trust Chaki when it comes to the sound. I let him work his magic, but if I have anything to say Chaki would listen.

Q) Your new EP Partition is out now. What are some themes you explore on it?

A) Things like “separation” and “connection” of the world. We started making this record at the beginning of the year. I was touring on weekends and in the studio in weekdays. A lot started to happen as we were finishing up the record, but I didn’t wanna release it without tracks or some lyrics that reflected the time we live in.  So, we made the track called “Awake” and also I talked about the end of the world even in a very poppy love song called “Bad Bad” because I felt like we are in the time that makes us think about things like that a lot.

Q) What songs off this album hold a special significance for you and why?

A) “Revenge” because this EP itself is really a revenge for another shot in my life.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to Partition as a whole?

A) A bigger picture

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Because it can be direct.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so much I love you.
