Interviews
Aymeric Jett Montaz – Anne With An E
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) What are the recent projects that you have been busy working on?
A) I wanted to focus on school between filming Season 3 and 4, so I decided not to audition for anything. Now that I know there won’t be a Season 4, well, I really want to find an agent to represent me and hopefully get auditions and book something.
Q) What is new this season on “Anne With an E” and Jerry?
A) Well, there are new characters of course. Also, the kids are now teenagers so new problems and new feelings – same for Jerry. He physically got a lot taller and we are finally going to learn a little more about him.
Q) How was Jerry originally described to you?
A) The breakdown described Jerry as a French stocky farmer around thirteen to fourteen years old, placid and affable with a French accent. I was eleven years old and very skinny, but could identify to the rest of the description.
Q) Was there anything you added to him that wasn’t in his initial breakdown?
A) Jerry is a new character. He is only mentioned in a few lines in the books. Since there was no one to compare Jerry with, he kind of became me and we grew up at the same time. If I added something more to Jerry, it was his constant smile maybe?
Q) How much of a say have you had in how Jerry has developed as a character?
A) I don’t feel like we were allowed to improvise. I have not seen it myself. Maybe because the writing is so important on this show.
Q) Going into Season 3, were you hoping to share more scenes with anyone in particular?
A) Actually, I’m closer to Dalila [Bela] in real life so I was happy to get to work with her more this last season. But if I had to choose another character to work with more, it would have been Lucas [Jade Zumann]. I hardly ever had any working days with him and he is really cool to hang out with.
Q) Talk about working with costar Amybeth McNulty.
A) AB is really fun to work with. She is a lot like Anne in real life. She talks a lot and uses big words and is passionate about a lot of things. I can’t imagine another person playing Anne! She’s incredible at what she does. I mean, she was working almost every day and had to learn so many lines, like every night. Still she would always arrive ready and be outgoing and friendly with everybody on set.
Q) What have been some of your favorite moments from filming the show?
A) Probably the bloopers. They are hilarious! I wish people could see them. We are like a big family and I find that bloopers are what makes the cast and crew bond together in a way. We laugh it out and get back to work.
Q) What have you personally taken away from your time working on “Anne With an E”?
A) I was only eleven years old when I started filming “Anne With An E” and I’m now fifteen years old. It was my first big role. I feel I’ve grown as a person and learned so much as an actor during these last few years. Now, that it’s over its like I’m leaving my childhood behind in a way? One thing that I take with me from this big production is that everybody (cast, crew, writers, directors) are important for the success of the show. Everyone’s job is important.
Q) Sadly, this is the last season of the series. Did you take any mementos from your time portraying Jerry?
A) I know a lot of actors keep mementos from their roles, but believe it or not I didn’t keep anything from Jerry at all!! Now, I really wish I did. I should have kept Jerry’s leather boots or one of his hats!
Q) What has it meant to you see the fans rallying with a “Save Anne With an E” movement?
A) The Anne movement to save the show made me realize how special this show is to so many people around the world. I’ve never seen anything like it! I was really moved by it. At one point it was so intense all-over social media that I honestly believed it could work! I’m sorry it didn’t…
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and the work you do?
A) The Anne fandom is truly special. They are the best! I can’t say enough how lucky I am to have their support. To all the Anne fans, truly from the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting the show and making edits and fan art and liking my social media posts. Without you, we would have never gotten to Season 3. Your love and support mean the world to me.
