Interviews
Bailey James – Bitter
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) Country, blues, and soul mixed together with some of my life experiences. Heartbreak, being a teenager, having fun, yanno the usual.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Bitter.”
A) “Bitter” is a song about a friendship coming to an angry end. He wanted something more than a friendship, but it just wasn’t going to happen. Then he started dragging my name around town and “Bitter” was born.
Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) Everyone has felt angry towards someone in their life. It’s easy to relate too.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) It’s cheeky, and wild, and fun. We are basically ending him and anything we had to do with him.
Q) You’re only 18-years old, but this is your 14th single! What continues to fuel your musical passion?
A) Life. All the crazy, beautiful things in it.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) It depends. I hate to have an idea before I write. Writing off the fly gives me my best songs, but I never know how long that creative spark will last.
Q) Mia Morris helped produce this track, but how much of a hand do you personally have in your music?
A) Well, I’d like to say if I don’t like my music, I won’t release it. So, I play a big part.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) Hopefully!
Q) With concerts currently on hold, have you been doing any live streams to promote your music?
A) I go live on Instagram often, do lots of takeovers, but lord I miss concerts. I still do a few every now, and then. So, I shouldn’t complain.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Chris Stapleton
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Rage Against the Machine. High energy music and it’s loud and angry and I love it.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) It’s my way of speaking to them all through one post. I completely love it.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Thank you. I’ll continue to make music that I’m proud of.
