Batwoman – And Justice for All
By: Alejandra Gil M
The episode starts with last week´s mini cliffhanger with Alice (Rachel Skarsten) finding out that Kate (Wallis Day) is alive and got a new face. However, she does not recognize her as Kate was brainwashed to think she´s Roman´s (Peter Outerbridge) daughter. He walks in telling Alice she´s earned her freedom and she can leave but she refuses after just learning the truth until she leaves perhaps being her best option.
Batwoman (Javicia Leslie) interrupts a snakebite sale on the street which we see went through some modifications and is now blue for some reason. She follows the seller to an abandoned church and sees an addict feeding on human flesh immediately reported by Vesper Fairchild (Rachel Maddow). Luke (Camrus Johnson) walks in to The Hold Up where a fundraising even is taking place that was set up by Imani (Samantha Cole). He tells Ryan there is more flesh eating zombies in Gotham so he asks Ryan to wrap it up so they can go investigate.
However, the fundraising for the Sheldon Park Community Center gets interrupted by the Gotham police. They ask Ryan to shut it down because they don´t have a permit. Luke tries to defuse the situation, but one of the cops grabs Ryan for no apparent reason and takes her and Luke into custody. Sophie (Meagan Tandy) walks in asking what happened, but just ends up in a cell with the both of them. They´re trying to figure out who to call but the one person Luke suggests is on her way into the cell already – with a dude named Eli (Kaiden Berge) that was caught stealing cars. Good thing Imani thought it through and contacted a civil rights lawyer to get the team out.
Sophie goes directly to the crows building trying to get everyone on board to help, but Agent Tavaroff (Jesse Hutch) does everything to undermine her. She reminds him who´s acting commander and he had no option but to get a team ready. However, they just start killing civilians at the church Batwoman´s trying to save.
On another bad situation, Alice is talking to Dr. Rhyme (Laura Mennell) who´s tied up to the ceiling. She explains what she did to Kate to forget who she was and embrace another persona. She does not want to get killed, so she asks for something of Kate – something personal so they can start somewhere. She goes to get Kate´s motorcycle keys from the subway and is surprised by Ocean (Nathan Owens). He goes back to Enigma´s office with Alice. She´s explaining how exactly they can get Kate back (which apparently involves a password), but before she can say it Ocean breaks her neck.
At Mary´s (Nicole Kang) clinic she asks Jacob (Dougray Scott) what´s going on, so he tells her everything. However, they are interrupted by Richard (Edward Ruttle) who is a snakebite addict that´s getting way too hungry and dangerous. He straps himself to one of the clinic’s beds. He tells Mary he took some new version of it and that it was blue this time when is usually red and yellow. Mary took a blood sample revealing all the things inside of it and it´s not good. The new recipe makes people crave memories and that´s why they´re eating brains. However, she comes up with a solution already being explained by Luke. It seems Batwoman has to inject the cure into every person individually.
Sophie tells Luke and Ryan that she´s leaving the crows and Ryan has the perfect response, “They don´t deserve you.” She then goes and breaks up with Imani because she can´t tell her she´s Batwoman. The last two minutes of the episode are hard. We see Luke walking and talking to Mary on the phone. When he sees Eli jacking a car he walks up to Eli and tries to stop him. The crows arrive and Agent Tavaroff shoots Luke three times after he takes his cellphone out of his pocket.
