Beauty and The Beast – Meet The New Beast
By: Stacy Miller
The episode begins with JT (Austin Basis) and Vincent talking about Vincent’s idea to run away. Vincent (Jay Ryan) doesn’t think the fake ID that JT created for him Chen Wang born in 1952 and 140lbs will work. “It’s worse than the fake ID you made for me in high school,” says Vincent. But JT tells Vincent that it is more difficult making fake ID nowadays with social media and security surveillance. JT finds it hard to believe that Cat (Kristin Kreuk) is going along with Vincent’s plan. He’s right, she’s not because Vincent hasn’t told her yet. JT also reminds that there is another beast out there that needs to be stopped.
Meanwhile, Cat is coping with everything by baking muffins, which is hard for Heather (Nicole Anderson) to believe because her big sister isn’t actually domestic. Heather’s issue of whether to move in with boyfriend Kyle (Michael Roark) is that big of a problem in the scheme of things. Cat tells Heather than she made the muffins for Tess (Nina Lisandrello). “To apologize for stealing evidence and lying to her face?” Heather asks. “Tess chose law and order and I chose Vincent,” Cat says, adding that with the new beast about there if they can bring him in like they did with Liam maybe they can make a deal with DHS. To do that, Cat needs access to the murder investigation of Braxton by the new beast since she lost her badge twice. So, she needs Tess. Tess arrives at Cat’s apartment with a bottle of scotch. “I hate scotch,” Cat says, “But I made muffins” “I hate muffins…that you made,” adds Tess. Ouch, did Tess just insult Cat’s baking skills? They leave the apartment to have a drink and talk.
Cat tells Tess about her plan to bring the new beast in to make a deal with DHS. Tess reluctantly agrees to help, but doesn’t want to go all vigilante as there must be rules this time which include no lies or cover-ups and that Cat and Vincent trust the system. “You and Vincent catch the beast, but I arrest the man.” Tess tells Cat about a man named Lars Ecklund, a big time mergers and acquisitions guy and Graydal client who brought out Muirfield, the nefarious government agency that created beasts. Cat reasons that Ecklund must have told Braxton about beasts. So, maybe, Vincent can loosen Ecklund’s tongue- not literally as no beast related tongue loosening is rule number three.
Cat and Vincent go to talk to Lars Ecklund and she tells him that Ecklund brought Muirfield. Vincent has a flash of Ecklund being killed by the second beast and then he and Cat find what’s left of Ecklund in his car. “I hope JT’s having better luck because Plan A just came to an end” says Vincent.
The Kellers get Tess up to speed on Ecklund’s murder. Cat shows Tess the phone she lifted from Ecklund which indicates his last call was to Dr. Albert Garris, the head of a bio tech firm. Cat decides to lure Garris out by using Ecklund’s phone and pretending he is texting Garris.
Kyle asks Heather whether she’s made a decision yet about moving in with him. She apologizes that she hasn’t had time because something’s going on with her sister. When Heather leaves, Kyle calls Special Agent Olivia Dylan (Anastasia Barzee) to give her information on Catherine Chandler.
Meanwhile, Cat meets with Dr. Garris and tells him that Ecklund is dead and if he knows about Muirfield, he could be in danger, too. When Vincent approaches, Garris uses a beast sensor to immobilize Vincent and escapes.
Heather brings JT a latte and Cat’s old high school yearbook. Apparently, as a Sophomore Cat had a girl Mohawk. Heather’s not happy when she learns that JT needs photos to create new identities for Cat and Vincent who may have to run away. JT tells her that it will be easier to create fake identities using the real ones of recently deceased people. Cat, Vincent and Tess arrive and Tess learns about their plan to run away. It is decided that JT and Vincent will break into Garris’ lab since he knows about the new beast and how to stop it.
At the lab, JT discovers equipment that makes the place look like “Muirfield on crack.” It seems Garris wasn’t just trying to recreate Muirfield, but is trying to enhance it.
Cat and Tess are able to locate Garris and Cat calls Vincent to tell him that Garris is in the building. At the lab, Garris tries to take JT and Vincent out but Vincent gets the upper hand.
At the hospital, Heather tells Kyle that she has decided to move in with him. When Kyle walks away to get his jacket, Heather steals the file of a couple who recently died in a house fire.
Later, Cat, Vincent, JT and Tess question Garris who tells them about his enhancing the beast chemical formula and all about the Braxton/Ecklund connection. Tess gets a call from Olivia Dylan that DHS wants her to come into DHS headquarters.
At DHS headquarters, Special Agent Olivia Dylan (Anastasia Barzee) questions Tess about why she didn’t report Ecklund’s death. She reasons that Captain Vargas could be going down the same path as her ex-partner by working outside the law. Off the record, Dylan tells Tess that she spoke to the Secretary of Homeland Security and there will be no deals for Vincent Keller or anyone who’s protected him.
JT is keeping an eye on Garris when Heather comes in with the death certificates that she stole for him to use to make Cat and Vincent’s fake IDs. Garris manages to knock JT out and is on his way to his lab, but the new beast gets to him first and Cat and Vincent find Garris dead. It looks like they have run out of options.
Cat and Vincent head back to regroup with their friends and Tess tells them that no matter what, DHS will never make a deal with Vincent. “None of us want this, but at least you’ll be safe,” JT says as he gives them the passports with their new identities.
Heather meets with Kyle to tell him that she’ll move in with him. It took her so long to decide because her life has been so hectic. Kyle promises that will be ending soon and admits he knows she stole the file with the death certificates and gave the information to Special Agent Olivia Dylan.
Later at JFK Airport, Special Agent Olivia Dylan and DHS burst in and Cat and Vincent are arrested.
“Beauty and The Beast” is on hiatus with the next new episode airing Thursday, September 8. With only two episodes remaining, how will it all end?
