Beauty and The Beast – Something’s Gotta Give
By: Stacy Miller
Not too many brides have to contend with having a bounty hunter searching for their new husband because he is a beast and has a five million dollar bounty on his head. But such is the life of Catherine Chandler, the newly Mrs. Vincent Keller. Now, she faced the possibility of bringing a baby into the mix. Her life is certainly never dull. Something’s Gotta Give was more than the episode’s title, it was what Catherine and Vincent realized if they wanted to have a happy and successful marriage.
Cat (Kristin Kreuk) is sitting in a coffee shop watching a young mother attend to her crying baby when Heather (Nicole Anderson) arrives and tells her that she’s decided to date Kyle (Michael Roarke). She assures her sister though that she won’t tell him anything about beasts. The baby cries again and Catherine appears distracted. Why?
Cat is on her way to meet with Secretary Deputy Hill, (Andrew Stewart-Jones) but learns that he never made it into work. Her cop ‘spidey sense tingling,” she realizes that the Hill could be in danger. Cat calls Vincent (Jay Ryan) and rushes out of DHS Headquarters.
It turns out she’s right, for at that moment, Secretary Deputy Hill’s head is being dunked in his bathtub by a man who demands to know the identity of the beast. Hill’s wife and daughter (Susie McLean and Kyrah Bowen) are gagged and tied in the next room. The man warns unless Hill spills the beans, he will kill him in front of his family and then kill them! Time is running out for Secretary Deputy Hill. Suddenly, Cat bursts through the door, her gun trained on the man. It’s an intense stand-off and as the man is about to fire his gun at Cat, Vincent appears from the balcony. They fight and Vincent throws the man off the balcony! He did learn who the beast was…too bad the man will be too dead to use the information!
Meanwhile, JT (Austin Basis) is complaining about his computer equipment. Now that Cat is a Special Agent, she’ll have access to more advanced high tech computers. Heather finds a pregnancy test in Cat’s purse and asks whether her sister is pregnant. Cat doesn’t know because she hasn’t had time to pee on the stick. But is Cat delaying taking the pregnancy test for a reason? JT tells Cat and Heather that unfortunately the incident with Secretary Deputy Hill has alerted bloggers on the beast situation. But he has an idea. What is JT planning?
Well, JT’s plan was to pretend to be a DHS agent and meet with the bloggers (Jess Salguiero and Shannon Kook) and to try to warn them against posting any more information. Physically, he had the whole DHS agent look down pat, taking on the perfect Men In Black look. (Will Smith would have been proud!) But unfortunately, he didn’t convince the bloggers so they use a taser on him and throw him in their van. Poor JT, always getting kidnapped!
At the bloggers hideout, JT is tied and chained up. Apparently because the news reported an assault of another agent, they were more convinced than ever that beasts were out there. And since JT went through the effort of pretending to be an agent (badly because he didn’t even create a paper trail to back up his claim) they thought he was the beast. Cell phone camera out, they were ready to record him do his “beast thing” for the entire world to see. JT laughs at how wrong they are. He’s just a guy trying to do the right thing, but unfortunately failed. “I’m nobody,” JT says sadly. The bloggers decide he’s more pathetic than they are and release him.
Cat tells Tess (Nina Lisandrello) about her possible pregnancy, but that she hasn’t take the test yet.
Secretary Deputy Hill thanks Cat and Vincent for saving his life and tells them that the only way to stop something like this from ever happening again is to find the person behind the beast bounty and put a stop to it. Hill believes that the man they should be looking at is Albert Toland (Neil Napier) who recently came into a large sum (two million dollars to be exact) of money and may have a connection to a Russian oligarch. In order to learn more, Cat and Vincent pose as a couple expecting their first child so they can go undercover at the exclusive school Albert Toland and his wife Judy (Lauren Bittner) are involved with. Cat learns that Vincent is not ready to start a family with the dangers they face in their lives and their demanding careers. Hearing the snobs at the school talk about putting two years olds on the right path to make connections doesn’t help either.
Suddenly, Albert Toland is abducted and Vincent rushes off to rescue him, but tear gas holds him back and also makes it difficult to track Toland. Cat takes Judy and her two boys back to her apartment for protection. The rich little brats start jumping on the couch and breaking things. Judy tells Cat that she doesn’t know why someone would want to kidnapped her husband. She further adds that ever since the boys were born, she and Albert have grown apart. This is not a convincing testimony for Catherine to start a family with Vincent and further adds to her stress of possibly being pregnant. When Vincent arrives, he and Cat get into an argument about the case and the pressures of work. Cat blurts out that she may be pregnant. Calming down, Vincent offers support to his wife.
Heather tells Tess that she hasn’t seen JT since the night before. They go to the parking lot where JT met the bloggers and find him (who the bloggers returned to the spot of the abduction). JT tells them about his kidnapping and smiles that Tess appears to have been worried. Tess tells JT that Cat and Vincent needs his help.
Vincent is able to use his beast ability to track Albert Toland, who is gagged and tied up in a trunk of a car. Vincent beasts out and rescues Toland, who it turns out isn’t as innocent as he appeared. Toland isn’t a bounty hunter, but he is a hired hitman who was paid to kill the beast. And he knew that if he were in a dangerous situation, it would lure the beast to him. Toland shoots and hits Vincent, who takes off running.
While researching Albert Toland, JT learns the truth and Cat takes off to find her husband after realizing Vincent has walked into a trap. Meanwhile, our hero is hiding from Toland who asks Vincent whether he is “some sort of experiment gone wrong.” Toland is just about to finish Vincent off when Cat arrives just in time and shoots Toland, saving her husband.
JT and Tess play a game of pool and Tess tells JT that just because they are no longer together doesn’t mean that she stopped caring about him. She wants JT find what he’s looking for by being himself.
Catherine finally takes the pregnancy test and it turns out negative. She admits to Vincent that although she never thought about being a mom, she’s a little disappointed to not be pregnant as she was starting to get excited about the idea. Vincent comforts her, but is he secretly relieved that they are not going to be parents?
