The show opens on the pin setting machine of a bowling alley. It is empty and there is some debris around the camera continues to pan around the bowling alley and we see more mess then some broken glass. A spreading pool of blood covers Holden’s drivers licence and the title card rolls.

Holden (Burkely Duffield) wakes up and turns over disappointed. He goes to the bathroom and washes his face. When he leaves he finds Charlie (Eden Brolin) waiting outside the door. She has made breakfast for them and confirms that the rest of the family is at work and that she wasn’t spotted.

Charlie has made them both French toast and the two have breakfast together with Charlie refusing to discuss why she is in Fort Reed. They talk about their previous interactions before she announces that this will be her last day. Charlie goes on to tell Holden about her foster sister in Oregon and how important she is to her. When Charlie asks about Holden tying himself to his bed, he tells her he needs to show her something. He takes her to the forest where he has dug up the mysterious freezer.

The two talk about Holden’s visions and the search for Edgar, the name on the freezer. Charlie wants Holden to move on from The Realm and Holden argues that this is his destiny to repair the damage he has done. After getting Charlie to try the lock, Holden again experiences a vision when he touches it and begins ranting about figuring things out causing Charlie to leave and go sit in the pickup. Holden eventually joins her giving the freezer at last.

Jeff (Jeff Pierre) is taking care of his nephew at the park as well as meeting with Willa (Dilan Gwyn). He is concerned about Holden’s discovery of the freezer as he feels that following that thread will likely lead to Hollow Sky. He then hands over his research about Edgar Abbot which includes a newspaper clipping about a tornado killing a local father, something we saw at the beginning of this season. Jeff says that the events at Hollow Sky have left their mark on Holden and Willa and that perhaps the two should talk.

Charlie is annoyed but Holden can’t stop from blurting out more details about his visions. Charlie asks what Willa has to say about this and Holden admits that he hasn’t spoken to her about it because of the way she had previously dismissed his nightmares. Charlie says this is all about his guilt and Holden eventually reveals that he has been working on his powers in secret. Then, the truck stalls out even though the fuel gauge suggests it is more than half full. It seems the gauge is broken, which Charlie forgot to mention.

Luke (Jonathan Whitesell) is playing Mortal Kombat while Willa fidgets on the stairs to his basement room. She’s upset that Holden didn’t tell her about the freezer and told Jeff about it. Luke tries to reassure her and eventually gets her to sit down with him and play. Luke thanks Willa for paying his debt and she says she didn’t but doesn’t really explain how she got Jay off his back. After Willa beats him Luke invites her to the arcade where he declares he will be able to beat her.

Holden finds himself pushing the truck down the road while Charlie steers. She turns off when she finds somewhere to have lunch “The King Pin Bowling” alley. Inside Charlie is explaining proper nacho eating technique when Holden gets spooked by the bowling. Charlie then opens up about her compulsive gambler mom before excusing herself. While she is away Holden heads over to the desk to rent a bowling lane which requires him to present his drivers licence.

The two start bowling with Charlie opening with a strike, Holden is impressed and mentions that he is bad at bowling so Charlie suggests that he use his powers to compete. He concentrates and manages to alter the course of the ball resulting in a strike. Willa and Luke have got to the arcade and Willa questions Luke on his use of initials as we see he has the high score on the Mortal Kombat arcade cabinet. There is some smack talk as the two fight and Luke comes out on top. Luke tries to teach her a move, but things get awkward for a second when he places his hand over hers. He continues though to show her the move anyway.

As they go to play another match Luke notices the bruises on Willa’s hands and realizes that she did actually beat Jay up to get him to leave Luke alone. Luke is overwhelmed and heads off to get some more change. As Luke steps outside of the arcade we realize that it is actually a distinct area of King Pin Bowling alley and he stops as he recognizes Holden bowling with Charlie. Just as Holden notices Luke, Willa steps out from the arcade too in order to offer to pay for the next game. The most awkward of shared looks between Luke, Willa, Holden and Charlie then takes place.

Holden awkwardly tries to explain to Luke and Willa why he is at the bowling alley and asks Willa who was looking for him. Awkward introductions then take place with Luke and Willa introducing themselves. Willa pointedly states that she is Holden’s girlfriend. Holden asks them to join, but Luke attempts to take his leave until Holden again prods him about working at a café. Willa comes to Luke’s defence. Charlie makes conversation with Luke, but it doesn’t go over well and eventually Willa agrees to join them.

Luke is confused as to why she would agree to it given that relations between Luke, Willa and Holden are particularly strained at the moment. He is also still trying to get over the fact that Willa beat up Jay on his behalf. Charlie mentions Willa to Holden as they wait for the other two to get their shoes. There is a look on her face that shows hints of anger.

We see Jeff in his GTO looking over his investigation files while also taking care of his nephew. Edgar (Jay Paulson) is sitting while another patient and taunts him over his room bursting into flame. The orderly tells him to leave Edgar alone, but he ignores her. The man continues taunting until the orderly answers a phone call in her office and then Edgar melts his ice cream with a thought. The man runs off to complain to the orderly still on the phone call and we see that it is Jeff impersonating a doctor requesting information about Edgar. During Jeff’s questioning of the orderly he arranges an appointment to see him and finds out that Edgar has been insisting to see Holden Matthews.

Back at the bowling alley Luke and Holden are about to bowl while Willa and Charlie sit awkwardly across from each other. Holden tells him that Charlie found him and explains that she sneaked into his room last night. Holden calls their relationship platonic and Luke openly questions this, causing Holden to come back at him as to why Luke is here with Willa.

Charlie opens the conversation with Willa saying that Holden has said lots of nice things about her. Willa quickly responds that he has never mentioned Charlie and the atmosphere worsens. Charlie makes it clear that they are just friends causing Willa to ask why she would have assumed any differently.

Charlie’s turn comes up and she starts talking to Luke demonstrating her familiarity with bowling and suggests that he should be more daring in his choices. When Luke asks her who can hit a seven-ten split (where the back two pins on either side of the lane are left standing), she quickly takes up the challenge. Holden tries to talk to Willa, but she walks away from him and he then follows after.

The two begin talking at a table, but start to argue because Holden didn’t tell her about the freezer Holden didn’t because she had previously dismissed his nightmares about the Realm. She says there was no reason to think his nightmares meant anything. Holden is angry because it clearly meant something to him.

Charlie manages to hit the seven-ten split prompting Luke to ask if she is a car flipper, meaning that she has telekinetic powers. Charlie replies that she is just a good bowler.

Diane (Romy Rosemont) drops into the church and is greeted by Miss Hayley (BJ Harrison), the pastor’s secretary who informs her that he is out. Diane makes up a story that she wants to get the Pastor Ian a new coat and manages to get Miss Hayley out of the room while she searches his office. When she gets to his laptop she discovers that he has secretly set up videos in her home. Diane is visibly upset and quickly leaves.

Diane heads over to Tom’s place and explains what she found on Pastor Ian’s laptop she is crying. Tom (Michael McGrady) tries to reassure her, but she feels that she has failed to protect her family. Tom wants them to go after Ian and Hollow Sky on their own and he gets up with the intention to head directly to their house and take down the cameras.

Diane wants to speak to Agent Borden before proceeding, but Tom refuses saying that she will just want to adopt a wait and see approach. He leaves saying that he will get her house back. Back at the alley everyone looks annoyed and are staying away from each other. Willa is taking off her shoes so Holden heads over to ask if she is leaving. She then asks him if he is happy. At first he answers “yes,” but then explains that he is mostly happy and that he has a lot on his mind. Willa then says angrily that she told him not to worry about his nightmares because he said he didn’t want that be a part of his life anymore.

Holden responds that she made him feel like he was crazy. Willa says she can’t win with him. The argument escalates with Holden asking why his wanting a normal life seems upsetting to Willa. Holden accuses Willa of coming with Luke to gang up on him which causes Luke to get involved in the argument. He informs Holden that everyone’s lives do not revolve around him and accuses him of being selfish, which sets Charlie off bringing her into the argument.

Charlie asks how they might feel if they were in a coma for twelve years only to wake up and have everyone tell them what they can and cannot do. After Charlie finishes her rant Luke responds with, “Who are you again?”

Charlie responds by saying she isn’t someone who held Holden against his will looking directly at Willa who asks what that statement meant only for Charlie to tell her to ask her grandfather. Willa blows up at that and asks Charlie what she knows about her father. Holden intercedes saying he told Charlie what happened. Willa is angry about this and says he should have never talked about those things with Charlie.

Holden says Charlie hasn’t done anything wrong prompting Willa to ask why he is defending her. It is at that point that Willa connects the dots and realizes that Holden wasn’t a virgin when they had sex. She then leaves. Luke follows but not before adding that Willa feared that Holden was cutting her out of his life.

Charlie is angry, but Holden asks why she never told him that she was in the Realm with Arthur. Her angry response causes him to realise that the reason she is in Fort Reed. He confronts her telling her that she was here to kill Arthur. She admits to it as well as holding the gun on him and says the reason she didn’t was because she told herself she was better than them. Charlie then leaves.

Pastor Ian (Chad Willett) is practising his sermon with Miss Hayley when Tom arrives and says he needs to speak with him. After Miss Hayley leaves Tom directly accuses Ian of putting up the surveillance cameras at the house. He denies it and then goads Tom by suggesting that he has all the access he needs to Diane’s house. That causes Tom to attack him leaving him seemingly unconscious and bloody on the floor.

As we go back to the bowling alley it is closing time and Holden is still there bowling by himself. Woody (Stew McLean) the manager tells Holden to finish up. After his bowl Holden waits for the ball to return before getting hit over the head by Diego (Oscar Camacho) with a bowling pin. As the two struggle Holden screams at him asking who he is as the lights flicker around him. Diego replies that he is the fire. As Holden dodges a bowling ball hurled by Diego he sees that Woody is dead, stabbed in the head with a bowling trophy.

The fight continues with Holden using his powers but failing to keep Diego away. When Diego attacks Holden sees the true face behind the man – the evil from the Realm. He then telekinetically throws Diego through the front door, who gets up and two rush each other right as the end credits begin to roll.
