Billions – Indian Four
By: Jay Smith
Bobby (Damian Lewis) is waiting for Larry (Eric Bogosian) inside his car outside the courthouse. Bobby gives him his watch that he has been holding for him back, and Larry is happy to be out. Bobby tells him Chuck will get someone to turn on him but Larry already got the news on that. Bobby mentions Hall helping Larry again but he has to listen to whatever he says. Bobby orders Larry to have a late night sauna session when he gets to his private place. Ira (Ben Shenkman) admits the cost of these cases because of the man hours hurts him for Chuck (Paul Giamatti). They discuss selling the house to help with the costs and couple’s therapy. Ira proposes the thought that everything has a life span and it’s okay for things to die off. Larry travels to his sauna and Hall (Terry Kinney) scares him from the shadows. He gives the rundown on what’s to happen. Larry grows concerned with the thought of Hall hurting kids to get his point across when it comes to this cooperation deal. Chuck is in his office with Kate (Condola Rashad) and Bryan (Toby Leonard Moore) going over a potential deal with Larry. Bryan thinks it’s a bad idea for the case to potentially see a jury but Chuck tells him it’s his job to persuade them if it comes to that. Bryan suggests the case could end his career after Chuck says it could make his career. They arrive in a conference room and Larry isn’t there. His lawyer tells him of the measly deal they’re offering and Chuck passes with a mental note of the disrespect. With the witness now gone, which is the reason Larry didn’t think his presence was necessary, this sparks a fire in Bryan to go through with a jury trial.
Wags (Mike Costabile) and Bobby are with Donald in his meat locker and he tells them a guy, Hank Flagg, isn’t selling his property. Bobby offers to speak with him directly to close the deal. Wendy (Maggie Siff) arrives at the house and expresses thanks to Chuck for what he said to the kids. The two share a bottle of wine, while being cordial, and Chuck finally invites Wendy to dinner with the kids. She accepts and Chuck’s phone goes off with Ira on the other line. The Rhoades have a successful family dinner. Wendy makes a comment to Chuck that the kids have the best parts of both of them and the two almost share a kiss. Chuck’s phone goes off again and he tells Wendy goodnight while proceeding to answer the call. Wendy arrives at Ira’s place and he admits to her that these cases, especially Bobby’s, are hurting Chuck. Bobby arrives at a skate park to meet Wendy. They’re there because Eva has a lesson. Wendy called the meeting to negotiate her return back into the office. She adds in the dismissal of the cases against Chuck and Bobby is happy to oblige. Wendy realizes he only had those suits to wait Wendy’s return out and she adds him not being able to be seen by her as a last stipulation for her return. Bobby agrees and then calls Lara to set up a date night with the helicopter.
Sr. (Jeffrey DeMunn) is with his informant and he informs him that Bobby has been going to Sandicot regularly. He doesn’t know why and Sr. sneakingly pays him for the information. Bobby wants a truce with Lara (Malin Akerman) and he tells her Wendy is rehired. Lara is offended he already made the decision and that he’s now lying to her. Lara gets angry with Bobby and tells him to answer his vibrating phone. It’s Hall with information on Flagg and Bobby wants to go forward with meeting him so others don’t hold out like he is. After the call Bobby notices the helicopter leaving signaling that Lara is really mad at him. The next morning, he tries to apologize and wants to work everything out but Lara isn’t hearing it. Sr. runs into an old colleague, Hal, and he gets information on the town receiving a gaming license and the announcement for it is soon. Sr. calls an old friend, Foley, about Sandicot and proposes the question on the casino being at that location.
In his office, Bobby asks Bach (Glenn Fleshler) to draw up a contract for Wendy’s return, the only one ever, call up Dake to drop the bribery claim, and to dismiss the lawsuits. Wendy is going over the contract with Deb (Ilfenesh Hadera) and Bach in the room with her as well as Bobby. He makes conversation with her and puts on a show by admitting in front of her to Bach that he wants the lawsuits dropped in stages. Wendy isn’t impressed and tells Bobby she prefers his small gestures over his big theatrical ones. Lonnie (Malachi Weir) is having a coffee and donut when Dake (Christopher Denham) threatens for him to make room in his schedule for an immediate meeting. Bryan tells Chuck he’s on his way out for jury selection and Chuck gives him wisdom on succeeding. Not in the mood, Bryan gives a snarky reply and wants to have a serious talk about his future. Chuck levels with him on why he chose Bryan and him needing to refocus. Lonnie is waiting for Chuck and in his office he regretfully admits his meeting with Dake. Chuck thanks him for his loyalty and to tell the truth.
Bobby arrives on Hank’s property and admires his bike collection. He really admires the Indian Four and the men go inside to talk business. Hank shows Bobby he’s been doing his research and an impress Bobby strikes a deal that also includes the Indian Four. Larry and his lawyer arrive and with Kate by his side, Bobby looks at the juror pool and smiles. While the judge asks questions Wags walks into the room. Bryan asks a juror questions that eventually gets him dismissed from the case. The lawyer gloats but Bryan doesn’t seem too phased by it. Dake starts to record his session with Lonnie. In the courtroom Bryan is back to asking a juror his take on his decision with the case. The jury pool gets riled up at the information on the bonus amounts Spartan Ives employees as well as Larry receives. The juror gets dismissed and Larry isn’t too pleased with the way things are going. Dake asks Lonnie about his placement from place to place and he doesn’t think much of it since it happens. Bryan asks for a challenge count from Kate and the amount makes the two slightly celebrate. The lawyer attempts to connect with a juror who admits that the way Larry looks shows that he’s unlikeable. Not satisfied and terrified with the way things are going, Larry and his lawyer to make a deal. Larry doesn’t like the odds when his lawyer tries to cushion the potential blow. Kate, Bryan, and Chuck enter the room and the lawyer renegotiates the original deal. A petty Chuck is not okay with settling the case anymore and wants to continue with a jury. Everyone is shocked by the decision.
Dake asks Lonnie if the information he just gave is correct. If not, he could be disbarred for lying. AG (Petronia Paley) calls Chuck to congratulate him and in code the two renegotiate his situation in order for a better outcome with Larry. Dake is asking Lonnie more questions on Chuck’s behavior during the Bobby investigation and before he can fully spill the beans, AG calls Dake to end the investigation. An upset Dake dismisses Lonnie who celebrates the victory in the hallway. Wags calls Bobby to inform him that Larry took a guilty plea. Dake walks in to Chuck’s office and before he goes he threatens for him not to get comfortable with this win. Bobby tells Wags the progress he made and the two relish in the potential of the future with this casino deal. Bryan is walking home when Bach calls to congratulate him. He proposes the thought on him getting close to his goal. Bryan asks which one and Bach tells him that’s what he needs to be thinking about. Bobby finally apologizes to Lara and she opens up about the sacrifices she’s made for him and the liabilities she’s cut. She thinks Wendy is a liability and doesn’t approve of the two having contact with each other. Bobby insists she’s right and he regurgitates his “no seeing Wendy” deal that Wendy forced on him like it was his own and Lara eats it up. The two finally make up.
Ira, Chuck and Sr. are celebrating his victory when the news that Bobby is dropping the lawsuits doesn’t sit well with him. He dismisses himself and leaves the men to finish drinking. Bobby is playing with his new bike when Hall calls to inform him that Sandicot isn’t getting the gaming license. The battle is essentially over but he’ll continue to dig up information. Shocked, Bobby hangs up the phone, and closes his bike garage with a solemn look on his face. Wendy meets Chuck outside the house and after seeing his face and congratulating him Wendy asks what’s wrong. Chuck asks what did she do for Bobby to drop the lawsuits and she admits to going back to work for Bobby for herself and to help Chuck. Chuck is okay that she did it for herself but it’s not okay for their relationship. He walks away leaving Wendy to think about the situation.
