Brady Seals – Amy’s Back in Austin

Q) How would you describe your sound? 

 

A) I would say it’s a cross between country and rock with a dash of pop.

 

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

 

A) My early influences were Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. Then I got into Willie, Merle and Waylon. I also listened to Alabama, Ronnie Milsap and Dobie Gray. In high school it was Prince, Michael Jackson, The Eagles, The Beatles and Journey. And later in life it was Jellyfish, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne.

 

Q) Talk about the story behind your upcoming re-release of the hit song “Amy’s Back in Austin.”

 

A) I couldn’t wait to re-record “Amy’s Back in Austin.” When I was in the band Little Texas, I was the original lead singer, but they replaced my voice with Tim Rushlow’s voice when I left the band. So, it was cool to be able to hear myself on the recording again.

 

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

 

A) I think it would be my storytelling. I’ve never considered myself a great singer, but I would hope people feel that my voice is believable.

 

Q) Tommy Barnes and Porter Howell wrote with you on your previous single, “My Love.” What is your song writing process? 

 

A) I usually start with a title and go from there. I try to outline the song in my head before I get too far in the process.

 

Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

 

A) No, not necessarily. Most of the time I outline the song’s storyline in my head first.

 

Q) Christy DiNapoli helped out with the production on both “My Love” and “Amy’s Back in Austin,” but how much of a say do you have in the production of your music?

 

A) Actually, on this Greatest Hits project I engineered and produced it all on my own. I’d send the mix to Christy, and he would give me some suggestions.

 

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

 

A) Yes, we’re hoping to release the record in the fall of this year. It’ll be called Brady Seals’ Greatest Hits & a Few Family Gems.

 

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

 

A) I always love to perform in Fairfield, Ohio – my hometown. And anywhere in Texas!

 

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

 

A) I really want to do a Seals & Crofts 2 record in the future where me and Lua Crofts (Dash Crofts’ daughter) do a project of original songs.

 

Q) You’ve been an artist with Little Texas and now a solo musician. What advice would you give to up-and-coming musicians looking to get their feet in the industry?

 

A) Know your music history. Don’t be afraid of genres. Titles and ideas can come from all different places.

 

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

 

A) I like being real, that’s why I like going Live sometimes on YouTube, TikTok and Facebook. It gives the listener a better understanding of who I am as an artist and individual.
