Interviews - TV
Brendan Penny – Mountain Man
Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?
A) Right now I am working on the show “Whistler” and I just did a couple of episodes of some other shows. I just worked on “Kyle XY,” which is a new series from ABC. I also recently worked on the movie John Tucker Must Die with Jesse Metcalfe that comes out this summer. It’s a really funny movie. Everything has been going great!
Q) Please tell us about your character on the show “Whistler.”
A) I play A.J. Varland who is basically the big business tycoon in Whistler who kind of controls life there. He’s the rich kid’s son and I am best friends to Beck MacKaye , who is played by David Paetkau. I am hit pretty hard by Beck’s death since he’s A.J.’s best friend. That sort of effects my relationship with my dad and that’s kind of where my character goes down. A.J. is a nice kid and he’s definitely troubled. He can be moody at times, but he’s really nice as well.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the show?
A) As soon as I read the break down, I knew I had to be a part of it! First off, getting to snowboard is my green light. Also, I read the first couple of episodes I was just blown away. I wanted to be a part of it so badly!
Q) Do you have a most memorable moment from filming?
A) It would probably be shooting the final episode. It’s where everything finally comes together. Knowing how well everyone has done over the season, just watching it really come to a close for the season, made me really proud to be there. I was proud to see how everyone did, how I did and how well the show was.
Q) “Whistler” is going to premiere June 30th, 2006. How are you going to celebrate?
A) We’re having pretty lavish party for the show, that happens to land on my birthday, in Whistler. We’re going to have a big party, do some interviews, do a lot of press and just have a really great time.
Q) Why should viewers tune in to “Whistler?”
A) It’s going to be the best! It’s fun, it’s high energy and it’s such an engaging show. It really gets the audience thinking about what is going on. Just every single character on the show can be related to by so many different people on so many levels. It’s going to be a really funny show to watch and it’s very interesting.
Q) You recently starred on the TV show “The L Word.” What was it like working with such a talented female cast?
A) I am sure they are absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, I did a side story so I didn’t get to work with any of the leads on that show. I know the cast is fantastic and yes, they are very talented.
Q) You started acting in 2002. What sparked your interest?
A) It was always on my mind and I kind of just wanted to go for it. It was, actually, my dad that said I should go ahead and give it a try. He said to give it a try and do the best with it that I can. Since I had acceptance from my family, I just went out and have been going for it ever since.
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) I am an avid sportsman. I play hockey, tennis, but mostly I surf. I go to Costa Rica every now and then. I go surfing and snowboarding. I am always going out there and doing something active. Those are my four main sport addictions.
Q) What is your latest obsession? A book? A movie? A sport? A band?
A) There is a band right now called Metric that I can’t seem to get out of my head. I saw them one day when we were filming in Whistler. I wasn’t actually shooting that afternoon and they were playing. I am also just kind of obsessed with playing sports. I can’t stop!
