Q) You pull double duty with acting and singing. How have your two passions come together?

A) When I was three years old, I was always singing and my mom was always asking me to sing. From there, up until the age of five, my mom gave me the choice of doing sports (soccer specifically) or doing musical theatre. Of course, I said, “Musical theatre! 100% That’s it!” So, I started doing musical theatre in Seattle. From there, I found a love for TV and film. Musical theatre wasn’t my thing anymore and I took classes for TV and film. Then, I decided to take a leap of faith and moved to Los Angeles with my mom. I planned on being there for six months and that turned into to nine years! Auditions were a bit slow, so I decided to work on my album. I had been writing the songs for the album for eight years. I’m kind of a perfectionist, which is why it took so long. I released my album on November 14th and my music video for “Come On Home.”

Q) You talked a little bit about your album. I’d love to find out about what sound we get to hear on it?

A) I would say my sound would be soul pop. When I first started singing, I was into blues and all of the old classics by Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. It’s crazy how my voice has changed over the years. I would say soul pop. There are some true pop songs on my album, but I am working on some new music. I’ve got some singles I will be releasing that are very Tori Kelly-esque. I’m very excited about those.

Q) How did you piece the order together for the album?

A) The arrangement of the songs on the album wasn’t necessarily specific. We did do upbeat, slow, upbeat, upbeat just to mix it up. When I was writing the songs, they all had a story behind them. I think it’s great that they are stories from my life and memories from my life because it will really reach out to a lot of people and a lot of people will be able to relate to them. I wrote the song “Lost” for my dad, who is no longer in the picture. But a lot of people will be able to relate to the song by the way it is written. It could be a boyfriend you no longer talk to that you miss. Maybe you lost a family member or there is a hard time in your life. It could relate to someone in many ways and that goes for the other songs as well. They are not all sad. There are happy memories and there is love.

Q) Did you have a hand in the production of the music?

A) Jonathan George had a lot to do with the album, with the production side. Anthony Mazza actually produced all of the music as well as Divine Evans. I had a say in every song. I chose all of the instruments, how I wanted everything to sound. I’m very specific about everything. As I said, I’m a perfectionist. We even pushed back the release to adjust the album a few times because we had to edit something or clean up the way something sounded. But it turned out perfectly.

Q) Did you find you had a favorite song off the album?

A) I would say that the two fan favorites would be “Come On Home” and “Confused.” Also, “Lost” is a favorite. My favorite song is “Confused.” It’s funny because when I was writing the song I didn’t really have a set melody to it. When I write my music, I usually have a melody or people just write and put the melody behind it. It’s different for everyone. I had no set melody to it and then Anthony Mazza came up with an amazing track to it that I was like, “Yes! That’s it!” It’s my favorite song and I could listen to it any time of the day. It’s all just so surreal to me.

Q) The video for “Come On Home” is out now and Cody Saintgnue is a big part of the video. I’d love to hear about how the concept for the video came about and how he got involved.

A) He got involved through my PR team. We connected that way because we wanted someone good looking and someone who could act as well. There were a few other people discussed to be in the video, but they weren’t necessarily an actor. They were just close friends. So, Cody seemed like a good way to go. I met him on set and I knew I made the right choice. It was perfect and we had great chemistry. He as a sweetheart! It was really fun to work with him and he did an incredible job.

Q) From your experiences working on the album, what have you learned about yourself as an artist or about your music?

A) I have learned a lot about the production side of everything. I had never really known a lot about that aspect of music. So, it was cool to see how everything is done; the way that Anthony took care of everything and arranged everything. And for me, as an artist, I don’t think I’ve changed or as a person. But I do feel like it only goes up from here. I feel like this was the big step that my career was waiting for and needed. I just feel like it only goes up from here.

Q) What is the next step in the progression for you?

A) Definitely going on tour. Hopefully, I’ll be touring out of the country as well. Something that is not part of the music would be me going out of the country to film a few feature films that are being talked about right now. They would be filmed in Malaysia. That’s a little sneak peek. But also it is just working on more music, writing and doing covers more.

Q) With regards to the live performances you’ll be doing, what can fans expect?

A) I would have a full band, of course, that would travel with me. I would be performing my album and probably some covers that are on my YouTube channel and some songs that have not yet been released. It would be a little surprise and really fun and exciting.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of your music?

A) Of course, I thank all of them for having my back and being there with me through this long journey. I love them and they can find me on Instagram and Twitter. My music is on iTunes, SoundCloud and Spotify.
