AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, airs Wednesdays at 8 PM ET/PT on UPN
Q) Who is your favorite designer?
A) I love Michael Kors and I love Betsy Johnson because she’s so fun, girly and crazy.
Q) Why did you decide to apply for the show?
A) I just saw a thing on television to audition and thought heck why not! I just saw that, went and auditioned. I went a little nuts in my audition, but thankfully got a call back!
Q) What was it like meeting Tyra Banks?
A) The first time I saw Tyra, it was really weird (in a good way). You see her all the time in her magazines and the runway and it was like, “Oh my gosh she’s standing right in front of me!” Especially when we had our time with her just to talk, she was just really nice and sweet. She really cares and that was something that I thought was really amazing of her. It wasn’t just like the cameras were there and when they said; “Cut,” and she wouldn’t look at you. She was very personal with us and she would talk to us about our problems. We could really open up because she really cared about what we had to say. I think Tyra is great!
Q) What did you like most about living in the loft?
A) It was just awesome! That place was so amusing and the things in every room. I loved Modelwood! That was my favorite part of the loft, I loved my room and loved my bed! I just liked that there was so much room and so cozy. In our downtime, it was great to have so much room to be able to relax and have a great environment. We had an outside area so the environment really did help. It was nice to have somewhere to go where we could be comfy and cozy.
Q) What did you learn most about modeling from the show?
A) I learned most about modeling how to pose and a lot about photos. I really learned things to do: your strengths and weaknesses, things to improve on, how to fix your body type and how to pose yourself to look better. Taking photos is not easy and it’s not simple because a lot of poses are very hard and uncomfortable, you have to twist your body and move your body so that you look best in the picture. I also thought I had a great walk before I went on the show, I thought I knew how, and it turns out that there was so much improvement I made from being on the show.
Q) What was your favorite part of life in South Africa?
A) My favorite part would have to be the scenery. It seriously was the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen in my life! This one time, we were coming back from a shoot, and I think it was the most beautiful scene that I’d have viewed. The sun was setting and the moon was coming up, it was a huge full moon and the sun was up at the same time and it was over water. I will never forget that as long as I live about how gorgeous it was. I so want to go back!
Q) Have you and Keenyah stayed friendly since you left the show?
A) Keenyah and I knew when we left, and whatever happened on the show, we were like going to be sisters until death. I love her! She is more than amazing and I have the highest respect for her. I cannot say enough good things about Keenyah. So yeah, I am definitely friends with Keenyah and love her!
Q) Tallahassee is such a small town. How did you feel getting out to LA?
A) I had never been to LA before. That was my first time. I have been to New York many times, and I lived there when I was seventeen so I love bigger cities. I am definitely a big city kind of person. I like the fast pace and all of that. It was great being in LA and I was excited. I had been to New York and lived there so I thought having never been to LA it was exciting that the show was going to be filming there and based there.
Q) How did you feel standing inside of Nelson Mandela’s jail cell?
A) That whole experience was really crazy, from what we learned and walking around. I had no idea anything about South Africa. So, I feel really blessed that I got to know the history and we were able to take time out from the modeling to actually learn the history and learn all about where we were. Going and experiencing that and hearing what they went through, it was crazy.
Q) Do you feel that someone else should have been eliminated since you were constantly praised for your good photos, even at this elimination?
A) It is a little bitter to me in a sense. My personality was not dwindling in my opinion. At panel, I was still “Brittany crazy” and going nuts and having a good time. Panels just change you and they changed me. It was extremely nerve-wracking and there were only four of us left. You never know who is going to go and it was hard because of that stress. In front of those judges, it was just nuts. As modeling goes, I had a great photo. I just don’t know and don’t get that. In my mind, I had a great shot, but I am the one that left. That confuses me a little.
Q) Have you heard from any of your former students about your appearance on the show?
A) I have not! I want to go back and see them, but I wanted to let all of this finish. I know a lot of parents let their kids watch the show and I want to let it settle so there aren’t all of these questions or comments like, “Ms. Brittany we saw you mooning people!” or “Ms. Brittany we saw you drinking!” It would just not be a good situation in front of those kids!
Q) How do you feel being compared so often to Janice Dickinson?
A) I think it is a huge compliment! I love Janice! Janice freaking gorgeous! I want to look just like her the rest of my life! She’s so freaking hot! I, personally, don’t see it. I don’t’ see anything like that. People say I look just like her, but I can’t tell. It’s a compliment though! I love her and think she’s hysterical! She’s funny, she’s outgoing and she’s blunt! It’s definitely not a bad thing to be compared to Janice.
Q) Do you have advice for contestants who try out in the future?
A) My advice to anyone who is ever going to be on the show or try out for the show is be true to yourself and never forget that because that was something that was hard to do. When you are gone away from your friends and family and there are all these girls that you have never met before it is hard. Times get hard to really be yourself and you have to dig through that and not change anything, no matter what they judges’ say. Be yourself and that was something I wish I had stuck with. I just got confused because they told me to tone it down and then I go and turn it down a little bit and they say that my personality is dwindling. I am sorry, but they told me to tone it down. I wish I would have stayed myself the whole time and if I would have gotten eliminated it would have been for me being myself. Me toning it down, that wasn’t me and I got in trouble because I ended up not being true to myself.
Q) Who do you plan on keeping in touch with from the show?
A) I am definitely going to keep in touch with Keenyah and Christina. I mean, Christina and I both live in Tallahassee, so why not because she lives right down the road for me. I might as well go see her! Of course I am going to keep in touch with her and Keenyah. I want to keep in touch with all of them! I got along with all of them on the show, Naima and Kahlen. I don’t want any of it to dwindle down. We spent so much time together and no one else in my entire life knows what I went through, except these girls. This was a big part of my life and an amazing experience so I want to keep our friendships up and keep talking. I don’t want any of it to go away as far as friends. I love everyone!
Q) What are you going to do now that the show is over?
A) I am going to go to New York City baby! I have to do it, why would I give up now? Why would I go through all of this stuff, put myself out there, learn all the things I did from the show (which is an incredibly large amount of things) and just throw it all away now? Of course I am going to go and pursue this as hard as I can!
Q) Who do you think is going to win the competition?
A) Well, I can tell you whom I want to win because she’ll probably buy me something! Just kidding! Of course I want Keenyah to win. I think Keenyah should win because she’s got the whole package: she’s gorgeous, beautiful, has a great personality, is very competitive and has got what it takes to succeed in this industry. She really wants it so much! I would love to see her win!
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters of you and the show?
A) Thank you so much for my fans for loving me and loving all of me and of course the craziness! Thank you, especially to those who could really get my personality. I’d say thanks and look out because I’m not done yet. I am going to have a lot more going on so I hope they stick with me!
