C-86 – Shadows in the Darkness

Q) How would you describe your sound?

 

A) Dark, experimental, alternative. It’s an amalgamation of multiple sounds underneath the umbrella on one genre.

 

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

 

A) lorn, blur, De wolf, UA Thanthorp

 

Q) What is the story behind your moniker C-86?

 

A) The stage name is an acronym (C stand for Created an 86 is the year I was born, thus the title C86).

 

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “The Dark Ages.”

 

A) The subject matter of the song came about base on a past and present apocalyptic theme. This is an extension of the way thing are based on my outlook on it. The definition of The Dark Ages in historical terms is based on moral and social decline within the middle ages (medieval period), so thus I use the term as a modern interpretation from my own perspective.

 

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

 

A) As stated previously, the key contempt of the songs that listeners connect to is the subject of both moral and social decline. This concept is open to interpretation, thereby being able to resonate to the prepared listener.


Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

 

A) As I mentioned, The Dark Ages is the period of moral and social decline within the middle ages. I used candle lit lighting and reverse stop motion along with shadow lighting in order to set the correct mood and thus interpreting the song lyrics


Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

 

A) I am very methodical. I would call myself a creature of habit. in a particular order I would produce the track, brainstorm a concept that is real if not also relatable, write the song, rehearse to see if it marries correctly, apply trial and error to ensure its consistent and then record. My lyrics, in essence, have to act in line and be a strict reflation of who and what I am


Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

 

A) I play a hand in everything. I write produce all my work. I produce a sound that is innovative if not original with a very distinctive atmosphere that I feel carries great weight.


Q) What can fans expect from a live C-86 performance?

 

A) Formality, timing, precision, perseverance, commitment, moderation and balance.


Q) What songs off your Shadows in the Darkness EP are you looking forward to performing live?

 

A) “The Dark Ages,” “Disable” and “Mental Distortion.”


Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new EP as a whole?

 

A) Listeners will be taking away something that carries great weight in its content consistency and creativity. It will no doubt foreshadow future projects of which I already have planned.


Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

 

Anywhere and everywhere. Preferably there will be major venues with large crowds that are present to support the artist and keep themselves hyped up and entertained, thereby establishing a connection which is what they expect.


Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

 

A) If given the chance Damon Albarn, Emeli Sande, lorn and ill Niño.

 

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

 

A) ill Niño “revolution revolucion” and blur “The Best of.”

 

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

 

A) In this technological era that is very fast paced, it’s necessary to utilize technology as a tool and platform and a foundational stepping stone. As technology if ever-evolving it’s a tool that I leverage to establish a connection with a diverse range of music lovers

 

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

 

A) To anybody out there support all other musicians and other artist. It’s an era where emerging talent ids is now out of the woods to get heard and make something of themselves.
